iOS Scouting App for 2015
Does anyone know of an individual (or team) that is working on a scouting application for iOS devices?
If not, any ideas on how we could scout matches with iPads? Any input is great. |
Re: iOS Scouting App for 2015
Hey! My team has never used iPads or iOS for scouting, but I had some really interesting input from a few teams who have in an older thread of mine:
http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=130050 I'm sure no one will mind if you PM, hopefully this leads you in the right direction!:D |

Re: iOS Scouting App for 2015
My team (Bears) from Mexico City is developing an iPhone and iPad app for FRC, FTC, FLL and Vex in which it includes scoring calculator, scouting and documents section. Look for it in the app in a couple of weeks.
If you want a quick preview you should check our app from last year's challenge, you should go to:https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/bloc...86543499?mt=8# Bears FTC 3141 Bears FRC 5415 |

We are starting development of our iOS scouting app tonight. Our goal is to have it submitted to Apple two weeks before the week one events.

Re: iOS Scouting App for 2015
I am working on a web-based scouting application. This should work with iOS, as well as Android and Desktops. The current code is at https://github.com/yash101/UberScout. It is still under progress, but should be complete sometime soon!
It's all AJAX-driven so it is quite fast and fluid. The server's perfect for putting on a Raspberry Pi and then bringing to a competition! |
Re: iOS Scouting App for 2015
We are working on an IOS app that is connecting via bluetooth to a central computer that then will take the results of the match and complie them into one spreadsheet and maybe even an access database.

Re: iOS Scouting App for 2015
I'm currently working on one for my team. I'm about 2/3 done with development as I worked on it as my final project for a Computer Science independent study this last semester. It's currently in a private repo on 225's GitHub account, but once I'm pretty much done and everything is better documented we're planning on making it open source. Even if it's not open source by week one, it'll be on Google Play.
The main features include: - Automatically syncing databases through the head scout's device, with support for up to 7 sub-scout devices. - Pit scouting with Camera - Easy viewing of all Matches and Teams - Match Prediction (REALLY easy this year :D) - Alliance Selection Mode - Download of Match Schedule from thebluealliance.com - (Possibly) Support for saving video of matches |
Re: iOS Scouting App for 2015
Yes, We have been working on a universal scouting app called MorScout. It currently works on all platforms including iOS. However, we are refining the iOS app, and it will be ready within week or two in time for competition. Please check out our github page to test it out as a web app first!

Re: iOS Scouting App for 2015
We aren't exactly creating a scouting app for ios, but we are making a webserver and connecting iPads to a laptop via Bluetooth PAN. The webserver puts out a form that can be filled out on the iPad, and writes the results to a txt file we're planning to open and analyze in numbers/excel.

Re: iOS Scouting App for 2015
My team last year was a rookie team, and we fund it useful to use the App FRC Spyder to stay up to par with the competition. It is an iOS app and is free. It's fairly easy to use, although it is not the best for scouting, it gives you a rough idea of how everyone is doing and how you are doing in comparison. I do not know how well it will work this year, however it was always up to date and allowed you too keep track of your "favorite" teams. It's a little buggy but it still works fairly well. Its more for the comp than scouting.

Re: iOS Scouting App for 2015
Team 1501 will be publishing a pit scouting app on the google play store for free by the end of February. More info on the app will be posted towards the end of the month. Sorry it's not an IOS app. But if any teams are looking for an android app...

The front-end (data gathering) of the various applications are slick. The back-end seems to be in need of work - What the application does with the data. Also, there is the issue of merging data from multiple iPads (6 people, each scouting a robot during a match). The solution that we are going with is: 1) Paper scouting, like we have done before. 2) The 6 paper scouters hand their sheets to a 7th person who has an iPad or laptop. 3) The data is entered into a spreadsheet immediately. The app we use is "Free Spreadsheet", and it saves a CSV file. 4) Using the USB Charging cable, I can attache the iPad to a PC laptop, and use iTunes to transfer the file. 5) Excel can read the CSV file, and import the data into our spreadsheet. 6) The spreadsheet is analyzed. I think they may even use some program to massage the data and spit out results. |

Did the FRC Scout ever get released?

Re: iOS Scouting App for 2015
I sent an e-mail to First suggesting that the negotiate with Apple to get an Enterprise Developer License that all FIRST teams could use.
I think one of the big obstacles for developing apple apps is the cost of the developer license. Apple gives away developer licenses to Universities, but not to High Schools. Maybe FIRST can get them to change that. So, send e-mails to FIRST to encourage them to approach Apple. |
Re: iOS Scouting App for 2015
Our app called Recycle Scout has been out for a week or so. An update was published today. The ability to download the schedule is built in but not thoroughly tested due to the late changes to the FIRST database.
We are looking forward to using it at Northern Lights this week. |
