Is this motor legal?

1 Attachment(s)
The motor in the attached picture came in the KOP some years ago. It has no identifying model number and so I cannot tell if it is legal for 2015 per R18.

Does anyone know if it would be a legal motor?

Globe motors haven't been legal for a few years.

Is that the globe motor? I don't quite remember what it looked like. If it is then I don't believe that it would be legal.

For a similar legal replacement, consider an AndyMark PG71 gearmotor. One came in the KOP this year.

Ah yes the Globe motor. Though automotive in nature, I believe they were used in transfer cases. This would not be covered under the categories of various acceptable automotive motors.

As a good rule of thumb, if there is no model number on the motor and you don't know what it is, it's probably not legal.

For that motor, it's fairly easy to go through the legal list to see it's not legal:
CIM? nope.
Banebots? Nope.
Andymark? Nope.
BAG / MiniCIM? Nope.
Window, Door, Wiper, Seat? Probably not, as it doesn't fit the normal form factor of those motors.
Bosch? Nope.
Snow Blower? Nope.

Sometimes the easiest way is to run through the list and see if it falls into any specific category on there.

But as others have said, we can identify it as a globe motor from way back in the day, and thus know that it is no longer legal. They haven't been legal for a very long time, but they still manage to crop up on robots from time to time, even on teams that never would have gotten one in their kit of parts!

Thanks for all the replies. We have bins on some old stuff and didn't know the status of this motor only that at one time it was legal. Definitely time to do some purging from our stock.

The PG71 Planetary Gearbox with RS775 Motor recommended above will do nicely though.

THE PG71 gear motor are my favorite motors to work with there small easy to mount and use and runs at a reasonable spead for many mecanisms, I used two of them last year to power the ball pick up, and we are using two again this year to operate the recycle bin mecanism, the only issue we had with them last year was the electrical connector tabs getting damaged and ripped off but andymark seemed to fix that this year with the new connectors, and also a plus the new models have a built in encoder, fantastic motors

I know VexPro designed the BAG motor with a 100:1 Versaplanetary as a very comparable globe motor. (Bad A** Globe motor is not a coincidence in the acronym!)

Stick it in a bin marked "Offseason Projects ONLY". They're nice little motor/gearbox combos, just not legal for FRC use.
