Definitely peeked my interest and watched it about 5 times. We could use their AV tech team at Worlds.

How about we hold off on this until FIRST can get livestreams/recordings to be consistent across all events. Then we can worry about this.;)

Lol I didn't know the Charleston team played in the same division as the Maple Leafs. Shows what I know.

^^This. As an international team, live-streams are the only way we can see other teams/comps that doesn’t involve an airfare. it's improved a lot in the recent years but there is still quite a bit to go, especially in the recording area.

Agreed that playing field projections shouldn't happen at regionals until live streaming is consistent (the money for 20+ projection systems like that would be better spent reducing registration fees anyway), but this would be a perfect intro to Einstein at Championship.

Now that said, in case anyone's curious/fascinated, here's 2 stories, one from WIRED and one from Sports Video Group on the tech behind ice projections:

Unfortunately, since a live stream requires quality internet, many venues are simply going to have trouble supplying it. It needs to be negotiated at each competition location by that planning committee, and most don't have the expertise either.

Remember that FIRST has little to do with putting on Regionals - it's volunteer work for the most part.

I can't imagine the cost of the projection system.

Having this would be the closest we would get to having an actual water game!

I do understand this. I am lucky to go to an event that puts some effort into this area of the event. But still FIRST has yet to help facilitate this part of the event when they could at least supply the basic equipment. Some events don't even have a webcast. And I imagine that this isn't always an internet problem. If it was they could still record it and put the matches onto the internet afterwards.
