Might stick to 5' lengths due to shipping costs.

That might actually be a decent size since I'm guessing a lot of teams want to use them on WCD, it would allow a front and back extend the full length (assuming historical rules and that a team would want a 28"x28" robot and their design uses a full length front bar structure).

Off topic, but have teams used 0.065" wall for WCD in the past? How did it hold up to defense?

We've used it every season for front/rear rails, and for the siderails on an offseason proto.

If the ends are exposed, they are vulnerable to impact.

Exposed faces can get dinged/dented, but this isn't really an issue (bumpers usually cover this anyway).

Biggest issue is the integration of bearings in the side rail. Traditional bearing blocks don't play nice with 1/16" wall. The clamp on vex/WCP blocks would work great though.

Team 4329 would be interested. I've also sent a note out to the greater STL area teams to see if anyone else wants some. We could serve as the local pickup point for a group buy.

Adam,

You can put Team 708 down for 200 feet, or the equivalent based on the unit length.

Thanks,

Zygmont

5188 would also be interested, probably in the realm of 100-150 feet. Exact number TBD.

Looks like we can also offer 2x2.063 6061-T651.

To make things easier, I think we'd like to set minimums of 100' per order.

Shipping costs kind of drive towards this.

Thanks all.

What is the cost per foot of the 2x2?

UPDATE: We were taking a hit on shipping before (it was more than $50), but I was able to get access to a MUCH better rate. I also got a slightly better price on the metal, and switched our plan for cutting/packing on this to make it much more efficient. TL;DR dropping the price so more teams can afford to get this magic metal.

We are pretty much ready to order.

To me make this easier/smooth we're limiting it to relatively larger orders, and there will be a flat $50 shipping fee for mainland US.

There will be 4 options.

All are shipped in 5' lengths +/- .25".

2x1x1/16" wall
90' for $252
160' for $448

2x2x1/16" wall
45' for $180
90' for $320

To order, email 973tubing at gmail and communicate what you'd like, and we will give you a paypal address to pay at.

Thanks all.

You are shipping in 5 feet increments? Correct? Does the 90 feet, mean 18 five feet segments or does it mean 17 five feet sections and a 4.5 feet section due to the removed material from cutting?

Sorry, left that detail out.

All are 5' lengths with with plus/minus .25in tolerance.

They are familiar with FRC though, so there is that (the first time I wandered in this season they had the tax exempt forms all set and ready for the influx of school associated purchases).

Word of caution, their website triggers the chrome malware detector, and doesn't have particularly up-to-date info on stock anyway. I would recommend calling.

I would like to second Metal Mart. We got both 1/8 and 1/16 for 2x1 from there this year and they are very helpful.
