Star Wars Order of Watching.
Time for a break from real robot discussion and talk about some droids. My fiancée, God bless her, has not seen any Star Wars movies...like...at all. As you can see, this is a problem that I need to fix. I've already watched all of them (of course), but I'm looking for opinions on what order to watch them in. Should we go with the original IV-V-VI then I-II-III? Or go straight through I-VI?

IV, V, VI, I, II,III. Order they were made, no question.

Re: Star Wars Order of Watching.
I've seen a good one somewhere on here:
IV, V, I, II, III, VI. IV sets up the situation en medias res. (Who are these people?) V then introduces complications (Luke. I am your father.) Go back to I, II, III to review backstory. Watch VI. Wait for VII and any other followons, if you still care. |

Machete Order. Tried it with a few of my friends, highly recommend (even as not really a star wars fan).

Re: Star Wars Order of Watching.
I had not seen all of them up until last year. I had seen 4, 6, and 1 in that viewing order.
When I went to watch them all one weekend marathon style, I chose to go 1-6 in numerical order. It was disappointing seeing such high quality visuals on 1-3 and then reverting back to (gasp) VHS tape for 4-6. This is the downfall of watching them in numerical order. Although... someone told me that after #3 the technology in the Star Wars universe was downgraded, so watching 4, 5, & 6 in less than awesome high definition quality was correct.... Yeah... sure. lol I recommend 1-6 order, but be prepared to be less than amused with the downgrade of visual effects, and the cheesiness of 4-6. |
Re: Star Wars Order of Watching.
Star Wars, Empire Strikes Back, then Return of the Jedi. The other three well.... we don't talk about those. But, since she has not seen any, I would recommend IV, V, VI, I, II, III; the order of release.

Re: Star Wars Order of Watching.
Talk about disappointment...I just realized I can't stream it anywhere. Not even by paying for it on Amazon Instant Video. What kind of crap is George Lucas trying to pull here?

Re: Star Wars Order of Watching.
Whatever you do, start with IV and V. Whether you then show the the prequels or save them for after VI is a matter of personal taste. Whether you skip I, even more so.
I know some people have suggested just skipping the whole prequel trilogy, but the last couple of reels in episode III (Revenge of the Sith) in which Anakin becomes Vader and battles Kenobi for the first time is redemption enough for me. OBTW - looking forward to the third trilogy, which I still recall as having been planned back in '80, though Lucas has been denying it for the past two or three decades. |
