Vex Pro #25 Chain Master Link Source

The Vex Pro #25 chain requires a weird master link with longer pins and thicker side plates. A master link that meets the ANSI standard doesn't work, but we aren't sure exactly what the heavy-duty master link is. We have a master link that's classified as "heavy duty" on the package, but meets the ANSI standard. Vex's heavy duty master link does not.

Vex is out of stock of the heavy duty master link. Where can we purchase a master link that will work with the vex chain?

Team 221 sells a Dark Soul chain tool for #25 chain. It's available from a few different suppliers online. It allows you to break and rejoin chain without any master links; we use it all the time now. Why not contact vex about the strength of the master link?

Although it is much more difficult, it is worth it in the long run just to re-assemble the chain. This is usually done with the flip side of a chain breaker. A tool like this works well:

Unfortunately it is out of stock

Good luck with the rest of your season.

We actually have had a harder time with master links than with the tool, espcially the thin c-shaped plate that always seems to get lost.

Hmmm this is very concerning. I haven't used 25 chain before sadly with this year being my first. I've been so used to ordering 35 chain from AndyMark or Vex and getting masterlinks from either AM or McMaster so I went about 25 the same way with 25 chain from Vex and master links from McMaster (because they were out of stock at Vex). I'm only now noticing the disclaimer that only the master links below (which are conveniently out of stock) work with Vex chain.

We were hoping to do assembly this Friday and over the weekend so would that mean my next best bet is to order chain from McMaster? I need close to 120ft so $5 per foot is robbery compared to $1 per foot from Vex.

Any concerns about using Vex sprockets with other sourced chains?

Insert panic.

Andymark #25 works fine with McMaster master links, and is only slightly pricier than Vex chain.

Since you're in Arizona, West Coast Products might be a quicker choice: http://www.wcproducts.net/roller-chain

#25H master links from other sources work on our stuff as well, nothing super special about ours.

Figured this could help someone else out. I found what looks like the same chain break as the ones from 221 shipping out of Utah.

Just got off the phone and they are sending that out today.
