carpet_ recycling containers
Anyone have any info on how well or poorly recycling containers will slide when pushed across "official " carpet? The carpet we have have done it on doesn't work well

Re: carpet_ recycling containers
The bottom of the recycle bin has a circular fitting made to screw into a larger ground platform. The circular part has a saw-tooth edge that should dig into the carpet pretty well when just pushed.

Run a science experiment to figure out the coefficient of friction. We had some of our students attach carpet to a piece of plywood, place the totes on there and tilt the plywood until they broke static friction. For the totes its about a 0.5 coefficient. Try it for the bin, its a neat way for students to apply what they learned in physics class. They were using this info to figure out how much force we needed to apply to our intake to grip the totes.

We've found that you can push the RC's across the carpet, but you have to be careful: It's important to contact them a little below their CG and to not apply too much force too suddenly... We are planning on pushing them a little bit - and preferring that they don't fall over.
