Week 1 Inland Empire

Hey,
who's ready for week 1 Inland Empire and what could happen there?

We have good amount of team coming to the event.

What predictions do you have?

I predict we will not be there! ;)

Week 1 is tough... hope you guys have a great time, and don't run into any funky game issues.

I will be there--doing the same thing I was last year (without the "Robot Inspector" part, though--that took way too much out of me last year).

We will be there, not rookies this year. Were here to win! Good luck all

2493 Robokong is looking forward to the event. It's been a tough year getting the new venue together, but I think you all will like it.

We could still use some help with field setup and a few more volunteers. Sign up in VIMS if you are interested

And all I can say for Sunday is... Bacon Mania

You came to our shop, saw the robot, told me we weren't a chairman's team, and then helped Matt CAD. Don't be silly :P
We also posted reveal our reveal video and photo.

But anyway, 100 is totally looking forward to being one of the many orange teams at the event. Can't wait to be the "away" team for once.

Agree...

Of the Robots I know about... Code Orange, WarLoards and Eagle Robotics should all do VERY well . I think one or more of those will be on the winning alliance in IE. Keep an close eye also on TruBlu, Aluminum Narwhals and Sultans too.

steelerborn 25-02-2015 11:18

Re: Week 1 Inland Empire

Yeah it is going to be a good regional this year.
100 has a good looking bot too l, wouldn't be surprised if they make it to finals.
973 are world champs so expect a good performing reliable bot from them.

Has 399 released anything yet? They will probably be good too always a great team to alliance with as well.

I'm anxious to see how strategy is going to work out this year. Whether we will see teams doing tasks independently or if they will assist each other (1 bot builds stacks another scores and another caps with a Container). I think there are some bots that will be better at building tote stacks from the HP really fast (2485, 2496, 3476) that having them just make stacks of 6 and letting another team cap the stack and score them may be more beneficial. I think Rookies and other teams could rank high if they do the cooperation stack, but i also think you will see other bots make a stack of three early in the match then let another team take it to the step.

We made it into Ventura late so we'll be seeing you at both events. Ventura is stacked this year makes San Diego look "easy".
2339/399 like you said are on the same circuit Ventura then SD as us.

Lots of Ventura teams doing the LA one too. (14 teams doing LA then Ventura)

Three of the SD teams doing LA

Is there any reason the IE cast is switching between a really nice quality camera and a really low quality one? It seems like between matches it pans around the arena in a nice quality picture, but as soon as matches start, it goes back to the potato stream camera.

We have 2 cameras - a robocam that's lower quality and a broadcast camera that does the field overview.

Two wildcard slots were awarded, and with Code Orange getting EI, it resulted in all 6 teams in the finals qualifying for champs

Yes, both 359 winning and 3562 winning both on the field and Chairman's generated Wild Card slots for 3250 and 5136. So, along with 3476 winning EI, the entire Finalist alliance ended up advancing to World Champs. Pretty sweet.

Jared is consolidating evaluations from the inspectors and will send them along.

Alliance picking order was:
1572 - 359(was rank 2) - 3562
3250 - 3476 - 5136
973 - 2485 - 1836
2496 - 3128 - 2493
3965 - 399 - 2375
294 - 1197 - 3328

With another Inland Empire regional is now in the books, here goes my usual round of thanks.

Thanks to the venue, Rancho Mirage HS for hosting the event! In my opinion, this venue has been the best host for the event. Pits were nice and spacious, arena layout was nice for spectators, and the weather(when it didn't rain!) was great!

Thanks to our playoffs alliance partners 597 and 4413! It was really fun to play with you guys. Too bad we couldn't continue the fun into semifinals.

Hope to see some of you at Las Vegas!

Congratulations to 3562 Livewire (of Pahcatellow Indiana? lol) and their partners from the Tators! Hopefully we'll see you at champs (fingers crossed). Don't know why the other alliances passed 3562 over. Great scouting on the part of 1572 Hammerheads and 359 Hawaiian Kids. Finally, very nice teamwork on the winning alliance. You were a pleasure to watch.

On the behalf of Code Orange we like to thank our alliance partners.

3250, it was great that our alliance came into fruition. We had so much fun trading stories with you across the aisle.

Thank you 5136 for working so hard for our alliance strategy. You guys pulled off epic repairs. Your organization is really coming together, I think you guys will soon grow into a household name.

Congratulations to the wining alliance of 1572, 359 and 3562. It was a honor to play with such wonderful teams.

A special congratulations to 3562 for wining chairman's.

It is very cool that everyone at finals qualified for champs. I look forward to meeting you all there.

Thank you 973 for lending parts and a hand to keep our robot running. 973 is the definitive classy team. Even though we were competing against them they were still willing to lend us a hand. I will be rooting for you all to win LA.

Thank you to the IE planning committee and volunteers, you put together a great regional.

Re: Week 1 Inland Empire

2496, Tru Blu, would like to also thank our alliance partners 3128 and 2493. We had a strong alliance and worked very well together! The robots were awesome and our drive teams worked very well together. It was rough to know that we only needed to raise our average score by 4 points. I know 3128 will be going to San Diego as well so we will get to compete together again.

Congratulations and to 1572, 359, and 3562 it was fun to watch all of the matches.

And congratulations to Code Orange, man so many awards what a great year! I will be stopping by your workshop hopefully in a couple of weeks (too many regionals lol). I know our teams will be working together in the future and getting closer.

Also to 3250 on getting the wild card slot! You guys have a great bot and deserve to go. I will be sure to stop by at the Sacramento Regional.

I had a great time, though I was a little tired by the end. I'd like to thank all the teams for playing, and for making my life both difficult with counting all your litter and can points and easy with not giving me much reason to take said points away via fouls. Special thanks to 1572 for loving to block an easy view for me by stacking and capping right by the backstop! :p

And for those wondering, I was reffing. I'm wondering how many CDers I missed recognizing (steelerborn and Boltman, were you on drive teams? If so, I think I can pair a face to a name now).

Yup I was the drive coach for 2496. I had the blue hair.
I wore my leather jacket on Saturday because of the rain (and we did really well our first match of the day so didn't want to spoil the luck lol).

That was just my personal notes on the alliance pairings.
Occasionally, I also switched a screen at the scoring table to check that the rankings were getting updated properly and folks would come over and ask to take snapshots of the screen. It was always displayed in the pits for all to see. I just thought the final one would be appreciated if you missed it, until the online system gets updated.

The official records will be posted on the FIRST website as they work back through the weekend's data.

Re: Week 1 Inland Empire

My best moment from IE (besides being picked by 2496/3128) was watching the production team figure out Sunday morning. The crew worked as one brain as they solved the queuing / robot pathway to handle the rain. The challenge was to get carts through single doorways. We had teams volunteer to do traffic control (Code Orange, Robokong, LiveWire, Cyborg Zombies) at the choke points. Teams were very patient as they removed their robots from carts to get through the doors and humans had too wait as the robots went through.

The queuing team and the production staff were the unsung heroes of the event.

Definitely like RMHS and the space for spectators. Still not enough room for a good practice field. Got to get that figured out for next year.

Thanks to all the teams who made this event special and memorable!

Inland Empire turned out to be a pretty good regional. My only complaint was that they had technical difficulties in uploading any information to the FIRST website, but they finally got that all up on Thursday I think.
Anyway, a parent took videos of the last 3 final matches. Here they are:

Re: Week 1 Inland Empire

I started typing up a post for LA, but it didn't feel right to do that before finishing this. Got really busy/distracted in the time between LA and Inland.

First, I have to say the volunteers at this event were great. I can't put my finger on any one thing, but it was just pleasant overall. From the LRI to the head ref, to queuing to pit admin, etc... everyone was just pleasant. It was much appreciated, and recognized by our team.

I'm very happy for all the teams that qualified. No offense to the others, but especially 3250. They are a team that has been doing quality work for years, and it's nice to see them have a chance at the big show (with Davis in between as more practice). They are a solid can specialists that could really round out an alliance at champs.

All of 973 is very sorry that we were the bottleneck in our elims matches, and cost us a chance at semis (and possibly finals).

Both teams, 2485 and 1836 were awesome to work with. 1836 we've worked with many times, and this time was more pleasant than ever. 2485 we'd never worked with (or competed at the same event before). I'd even heard some rumors that they were a grumpy team. These couldn't be further from the truth, they were hands down one of the most positive and enthusiastic teams we've ever worked with. Everyone was just so nice. It was a bummer to see their robot not at full potential, but the design is right (same 2 carriage design as many teams) and I'm sure they'll get it going for San Diego and put on quite a show. They also have the COOLEST canburglars I had seen at that point, which were also pretty fast.

Thanks once again to the IE planning committee for a very solid event.

Thanks so much for the shout-out! We were thrilled to say the least to work with 973 (as you could probably tell from my not-too-subtle reaction before going up to accept your pick :) ), and would love this to be just the beginning of a longstanding SoCal relationship. Thank you guys so much all the help you gave us at IE!
