Hi Philso,
The Collars are used to protect the solder connections on the cables when they are pulled. This way your soldered connections won't break that fast when prototyping.

Ultrasonic sensors are indeed placed below the airtanks, they are used for some extra sensing.
Thanks for your interest!

Will we have to watch to watch the live stream of the Virginia Regional to figure out what the "extra sensing" is for?

Oh wait... We will have to watch the archived videos since we will be competing at Bayou at the same time.

Fantastic looking robot. My only question is why are there only (what appears to be) mentors standing in front of such a beautiful robot. I would think the students who spent 6 weeks to build it would like to be at least pictured with it.

You mean the photo with the 2 guys with the robot?
On the left is someone who works for Ultimaker and Youmagine.

They gave us some printers for the robot to test/protoype with. On the right it's me actually.
I met Ronald (on the left) during an FTC competition. He needed a photo for his blog together with me.. And we used this photo for the article, hence why it was easy to use again now!

I'm 21 at the moment and you could see me as an alumni or mentor. I've started the team when I was 17, 3-4 years ago.

Within our team we have a different team structure and philosophy. We don't have parents or business people as active mentor within our team, we're a high school that works together with a university of applied science. The university students are alumni's in their first year participating, and their second year participating they are most likely a mentor.

The average age in our team is around 19-20. (including mentors)
