New FIRST website

FIRST has a new website layout. It looks excellent.

Too bad there's no BOM yet :(

Edit: Look at the Championship Event page. Four divisions again this year, or is it out of date info?

Mike

David Kelly 20-12-2001 18:26

that looks sweet!! they have a lot more info and it's easier to find info. i like i like!!!:D :D

someone needs to set us up the BOM

Jessica Boucher 20-12-2001 18:41

Little bit like a Crayola ad, but the color scheme works really well in distinguishing areas. Plus, all content loads really fast (even on a 56K), and the content is easily accessible. Lovely job, just a little of a shock to find out.

Who's the team on the index page? My guess is Beatty (vaguely remembering the tshirt design), but if someone could figure it out that'd be one less thing off my mind ;)

Christina 20-12-2001 18:44

Hey! Look at that! A new website...no wonder it was down when I tried to get there before. By the looks of it, we're going to have 4 divisions at Nationals again (Archimedes, Newton, Galileo, and Curie), at least that's what's under the Championship Event. Well, I think it looks pretty spiffy anyway.

I am just happy about the change....so very happy.
[Edit: I changed my mind when I saw who created the site...]

Joe Ross 20-12-2001 20:03

The team on the front page is the Chairman's award winner, 22 from chatsworth high, which you can vaguely make out on the robot on the left. If you had been to their various off season competitions or the LA regional, you would have also recognized their mechanical Homer on the right.

Clark Gilbert 20-12-2001 20:23

Cool.....

FIRST and AutoDesk really made a cool website......i really really hated trying to browse around the other one........now its really easy and "clean"....

:) :D

Melkor 20-12-2001 21:02

grrrrrrrr

I can't stand the new one.
All of the old compitition links, results, and general info are gone.
I was doing research about 4 hours ago on teams and came back to it an hour ago and found there was nothing for me to do.
In my team i am the self proclaimed researcher of other teams. I am annoyed i was unable to finish it.

Jon Lawton 20-12-2001 21:04

Ah. I'm glad to see the page layout has been reworked. It has been needing it for a long time. Much, much better! :) The only problem is... now... I can't blame the site if I can't find somthing!

i'm sure FIRST archived all that stuff. try asking them for some stuff.

I love the new site. Much cleaner, faster, and better organized. I think it really makes a better online presence for FIRST now. The folks at Autodesk (check out the info at the bottom) that designed it did a fabulous job. Hopefully the dead links won't come back like the old page now!

It's team #759. It was started by a college student formerly of Team 97, I believe.

patrickrd 21-12-2001 18:35

Wow, they actually state the mission of FIRST now... helpful information, useful information... It's amazing. :D

Never fear! Mr. Pebody says: "Use the WayBackMachine!" http://www.archive.org. Looks like the have the page archived back to 1996. Hope that helps.

We'll be there, too. I'm not sure anyone's stepped forward to host a meet of any sort there. I'm sure Christina won't mind if I volunteer us, though. We'll just have to find out who's interested, and when a good time to meet would be.

The new FIRST Site has NO Value. It has no information and should NOT have been implimented untill ALL the information was transfered. Visitors to the site for the first time will find very little use for the site.
There is only a few days untill kick off and NOW is when the whole site should be up and running in its entirty. But if you only need information on HOTELS then your all set, unfortunatly HOTELS I dont care about, who all the teams are at our regionals are what we would need to know.
Hey F.I.R.S.T. Web master.... shake a leg.

You can still see what teams are going where.

http://www.usfirst.org/robotics/index.html and look in the top right.

And the site has much more information than the old one and it's much better organized.

nick reynolds 23-12-2001 19:56

AH HA.... I figgered it out. The map page on my putter takes nearly 5 minutes to load and I didnt know there even was a map page with all this info, OK Now im happy.

Thank you Jay.
