2015 Los Angeles Regional

I'm new to the area and looking forward to my first LA Regional! I'm excited to be volunteering as a ref for my first time on the West Coast.

With that said - is anyone looking to share a hotel room, has an extra space in their room, wants to host a volunteer, etc.? Let me know!

Edit: I'm all set now, but thanks to the wonderful FIRST community for reaching out to me!

I'll be there, in a yellow hat (on Thursday, at least).

Several of the teams attending used Inland Empire as a warm-up, and are coming in hungry for some medals, but some of the others are going to be just as impressive.

We'll be driving each day, so no hotels to share. Sorry.

And yes... LA is looking like a beast of a competition... again. I don't think anyone has more teams (maybe a couple of ties), and with so many former regional and world champions.

This is our warm up for Ventura. Hopefully we'll recover from shock by the time our second regional happens :D

Thanks! It was great to meet you in person after all these years on CD :)

I'm stoked to be back up and running with a team out here already.

Maybe we did :D

However there are no longer 3 teams on the island of Maui. This year, Saint Anthony will be participating in FRC. However they could not afford to come to Long Beach with the rest of the Maui teams.

Re: 2015 Los Angeles Regional

Fun day today! Ready for more stacking tomorrow.

One issue I have with the LA Regional -- I'm getting very frustrated about the availability of the practice field. We were not able to get on all day because only 2-3 robots max were permitted on the practice area at a time, at a regional for 66 teams! Part of the day, the entire area was closed for some sort of filming shoot. This forces us to practice in our pits which is cramped and more dangerous.
This regional really needs to do better with practice area availability.

On behalf of Team 3309, I'd like to thank our alliance partners 3328 and 4276.

207: congratulations on your Chairman's win and a fantastic program

330, 973, and 1515: congratulations on a well deserved win, and for proving without a doubt that Recycle Rush is far from boring!

Thanks to the LA regional planning committee and volunteers, this regional is always an enjoyable one and it ran smoothly once again.

Thanks to Teams 3328 and 3309 for picking us as your alliance partner! 3309, is was great having you as a partner once again (we were alliance members in the 2014 Las Vegas regional as well).

Team 330 -- I just wanted to say I was mesmerized by your performance throughout the competition. The precision you have with those cans are fantastic. You certainly proved how exciting this game can be. 973 was solid as well and when they joined to form an alliance I honestly wasn't sure if any alliance could even come close to beating them.

Team 4276 is looking forward to Ventura!

20' usb extension cables and logitech gamepads.

Discussed the safety and legality of it with head ref and he was cool with it.

Actually, I think I see a fragment of arm down by the computer. Might be they turned to ghosts?

Lexan is funny in how it reflects/refracts/messes with light. Anybody remember 2008's central wall? I'm pretty sure they're back there, just that one panel is at an odd reflection angle.

T6-1, blue box. I would, obviously, check with the refs at Championship before using that strategy there.

Though I do admit that I think the "arbitrary" placement of alliances into the station could use some work, specifically making it the alliance captain's choice in the future if it matters to the alliance as to who goes where. There was some discussion of that a while ago as I recall.

That photo was cropped, here is more so you can see where 973 is positioned:
