[GameSense] Episode 2 with Kiet from 1538!

Totes were stacked, cans were balanced, and noodles were flying last week for the debut week of Recycle Rush competition.

Join GameSense Wednesday from 9-10 PM ET, 6-7 PM PT for our second episode of the season! This week, we are joined by Kiet Chau from FRC 1538, The Holy Cows. Kiet has been a mentor for a number of years and was also a driver and coach for FRC 968. We’ll be discussing our opinions on how Recycle Rush is shaping up, how the brand new RoboRio did it its initial outing, and what to be on the lookout for as in week 2 as the game begins to change and more powerhouse teams approach the fray.

Stay tuned after the show for our weekly 30 minute Q &A with the Twitch.tv chat! Ask us anything through our chat bot GameSensebot, and we might pick your question to discuss on the show! The Q & A does get included with the video on youtube after the show, so dont miss it

Don’t miss it live Wednesday at 9 PM ET at twitch.tv/FRCGameSense, youtube.com/FRCGamesense or frcgamesense.com!

Just so people are aware, we had a catastrophic issue with the internet from the streaming computer. We are in the process of setting up the stream from a different computer and hope to be back live in a few minutes. Hang tight everyone!

I tuned in a little late and I heard a casual mention of a driverstation bug that stopped 1983 from running autonomous in elims. Is there more info on that anywhere?

I'm not a programmer, so there's a chance everything I'm saying is wrong, but here goes:

We had the same DS bug that others were experiencing which caused the robot to not connect to the field quickly. That combined with quick match turnaround in elims, we would not always have full air pressure at the start of autonomous, so we changed our autonomous to do nothing but charge our air tanks instead of trying to do something we knew would fail (pick up a container).

Nothing to be concerned about, other than if you experience the issues, be aware of what impacts that may have on the robot.

In one of the "week 1 observation" threads (?) someone mentioned the correct procedure for connecting to the field with the new control system...the main thing is, don't turn on the robot until your DS laptop is talking to the field management system.

edit: Oh yeah...good show! I started watching after it went back online.

FYI, the youtube upload ended up only 14 seconds long. I'm thinking something needs to be retried.

This should be the full episode: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g4NPsxAUxJI

Once again, thank you everyone for sticking with us as we worked through numerous technical difficulties tonight. If you are watching the recording, you will see some remnants of that.

About 10 minutes prior to going live, our streaming software crashed, causing Steph to have to recreate all of our presets. This usually takes between 15 and 20 minutes, and was the reason for the initial delay in going live. Once we started streaming, we discovered the upload speed from our normal streaming location dropped to less than 2mbps (it is normally 10mbps, and is also the reason why my video never showed up). This forced us to set up our streaming and overlay software on Ty's computer. Some other bugs manifested themselves as well, which resulted in not having the ticker or the overlays to show pictures or video on air.

We will work to ensure that next week's show runs significantly smoother and that we deliver the complete viewing experience.

I also want to extend another huge thank you to Kiet for not only being a fantastic guest, but staying a bit longer than he bargained for while we ironed out the bugs and then ran a full show.
