1678 and 254 on the same field is always fun. But throw in 1323 and 1671 and you have quite the party.

You all do realize this is a Friday-Sunday event right? Practice matches start tomorrow.

If 1678 is streaming on YouTube, they won't have the link until they go live.

Looking forward to another great event and great broadcast!

We will get the webcast embedded on the regional website when it is available. (And on TBA).

I know 1678 is working to get it ready for this weekend. Please be patient.

1678 cannot wait to compete with some of the best teams in CA this weekend!

I can confirm 1678 will be webcasting the event. The students have packed up our necessary equipment and will likely start broadcasting practice matches tomorrow. See the post above mine for an embedded link.

Unfortunately, we will not be permitted to use our HD set up at CVR this year, which will likely be true for all three events we attend (CVR, SAC and SVR). This is out of our hands, and has to do with union regulations regarding "broadcasted events" and the labor fee's that FIRST pays to Show Ready Events.

We are not happy about this decision, but we have been instructed from the Regional Director level that this is how it will be in CA this year. The quality of these broadcasts is not what we want to provide the FRC Community, and we apologize in advance for any viewing frustration this may cause. We hope you'll still enjoy cheering on your favorite California teams this weekend.

See you all soon.

Thanks for the explanation that probably explains the lack of quality in week 1 pretty much throughout event live webcasts

Just one more reason to love districts. FIRST doesn't have to pay a company to setup the event. We can do most of the event planning and setup ourselves.

All,

I spoke too soon.

Our Webcasting Student Team Leader just informed me that, at least for CVR, we will be providing a full-field HD broadcast. Future events (Sac and SVR) are still up in the air.

We will be archiving HD as well and will upload after the event.

Hooray!

Thank you for helping push the FIRST community to have better live streams.
I have one question, why does your team continue to use YouTube for live streams when we already know the problems that exist when copyrighted music is played? There are various other options that don't have this problem. Either way, thank you!

Just a guess since I'm no longer an official member of the team: we were previously banned from twitch due to their "video games only" policy, so this may be to avoid that trouble again.

That seems a little odd to me, as twitch regularly has streams that broadcast talk shows, board games (chess), tabletop games (D&D), and card games (MTG). Many of these are, at one time or another, extremely popular.

That was a problem before, but Twitch has become a bit more lenient these days. I think 2 or 3 live streams during week 1 were on Twitch.

Twitch is not the only solution, USTREAM and Livestream are other options. PNW FIRST uses USTREAM because it is a generally a solid platform, I don't know if we have tried using Twitch, but I don't think we will need to switch in the near future.

Livestream is cool with the whole rewind thing (though we already do near instant uploads), but there are a few drawbacks, specifically you need the actual site open, so GameDay becomes useless.

I cant speak for 1678 but we use YouTube because of the ease of playback and dvr functions. It also let's us easily host them on our channel, where we host all of the individual clipped matches as well. We deal with the music problem by getting an audio feed from just the microphones and game sounds.

Ah, that makes it a bit clearer. We haven't really run into any problems since we have a dedicated volunteer to record and upload matches on the fly. Thanks for the insight.

1678,

Just to let you guys know (if you don't already), the webcast audio seems to be screwed up. It's making a pretty terrible sound in place of any real audio. In addition, the Skype call ring comes through the feed every 30 seconds (someone gets a lot of Skype calls?) along with the occasional sonar-ish pings. It's weird haha.

Citrus Circuits is livestreaming CVR here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NzzkJV3xQ2Y. This is an UPDATED link, please do not use the last one. We apologize for the inconvenience.

I do believe there are some sound issues with the stream currently. Sounds a bit over-compressed and clipped out.

Hi everyone, we have an even newer updated version for livestreaming, here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X2lDe5wTvSA. Please use this instead, as the last one was creating static-y noises. Again, we apologize for the mix up!

I don't know if it's because the stream hasn't started yet or if there is an issue on your end?

Can you try accessing it again? I went through our channel then to the video and the link should be working. Here is the link again: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X2lDe5wTvSA

I have that stream working, but the sound is still quite messed up, lots of static.

The webcast is currently extremely laggy, to the point of being unwatchable.

Re: Central Valley Regional 2015

The feed has gotten a little less choppy as the day goes on, but the overlay is displaying the incorrect match. Right now the overlay says match 20, but match 18 is playing.

Can anyone post an update about this event? I would love to know in particular how 1678 and 254 are doing but also if there is anyone else making a strong case.

254 has a ceiling that is high, but not as high as 1114's. They are also slightly inconsistent.

1678 has been fairly consistent, especially as the day went on. They're scoring 2-3 stacks of 5 totes + litter almost every match. However, their score ceiling is relatively low. We also haven't seen the chokehold mechanism in action.

No other team is in the same tier at the moment. However, I'll put my money on 3970 as a sleeper pick. They've been consistently strong every year since 2013, and this year is no different.

On behalf of team 1678, I would like to thank the organizers, volunteers, judges and referees of the Central Valley Regional for putting on another fine event. Everything ran smoothly and the atmosphere was electric from start to finish.

A huge thanks to our alliance partners, teams 254 and 1323, especially Madtown for letting us mount our second RC grabber on your bot.

Congratulations to the finalist alliance of 701, 2102 and 1662. All three of you looked like the seasoned teams you are and, sitting next to 2102 in the stands, I can say that you are one of the most enthusiastic but gracious teams in FIRST.

Congratulations to team 604 for another well-deserved Chairman's win and to team 585 for taking the EI trophy.

A huge shout out to Team 5529 for catching the Judges eye, winning the Rookie All Star Award and a trip to champs. You guys made huge progress from Friday to Sunday and were one of the few teams to complete two Coopertition stacks.

last, but by no means least, I can't tell you how pleased I am that Paul Lake has finally earned a well-deserved Woodie Flowers. Your dedication to FIRST and leadership of one of the most outstanding teams in California is something you should be very proud of.

Also, thanks to all the great teams who came to this event and made it so much fun. Looking forward to seeing some of you at Sacramento and SVR.
