Who said there's no defense in this game?!

This happened at the Wilsonville, OR tournament twice (during two different matches)! Our robot (753) has no bottom platform so they just zipped forwards & backwards then right out of the litter. The other team was... not so fortunate and was non-functional for the rest of the match.

Our HP is a javelin thrower and our litter score was quite high when he was allowed to throw.

Our team was the victim of #Buttongate

2530 HP is 6'6". He actually throws the noodle with a slight downward trajectory. In the 216 point game (semis 2), our alliance partners, 2826, looked at the scoreboard and asked, "How did we score that much?" I pointed out the 40 litter points.

That...that's insane.

Thanks for finding that. I have a feeling that this wouldn't have flew too well at other districts' events. I thought he might have been slamming the chute door on the tote in an attempt to manipulate it but it appears that he's just being incredibly rough on the door. I'm still questioning the whole "alliance wall" part, though -- OP, what did you do to break an entire alliance's wall?

The handles at Sydney were apparently not the correct ones as they are different in Hawaii. The ones in Sydney were Balsa wood, with 15 mm deep wood screws. 359 broke handles as well but are yet to do so in Hawaii.

As for the 10.5 seconds of totes I will hopefully post a video later.

He sometimes releases the tote at the top of the chute, and attempts the door before it touches the door, but this is not always the case. You can watch him break a handle off at 2:09:50 in this video https://youtu.be/Hgaex5m52XM?t=2h9m44s . If I were a ref or volunteer, I think I would have to warn him about that, 3132 played in 20 matches, breaking the handle off the door every other match is ridiculous, considering there are plenty of other teams doing the same thing that have never broken one.

We were reminded multiple times however that is within the terms of use. Jerry Budd (from Andy Mark), was fine with it as it was a field fault. It was not egregious nor strategic. In Hawaii as well the Head Referee said that it was fine as well as it is within the use of the door.

In my opinion it is a poorly designed field element, as have a hard metal stop, stop something traveling at speed is not the wisest.

This makes a little bit more sense. After spending a weekend at a regional, I found it hard to believe that they could be broken without doing something unreasonable. The fact they were made of balsa wood makes a huge difference.

It appears to me that this was a special case based on the strange choice of materials for the field in Austrailia. I imagine if the field was constructed to spec, and you were still breaking handles then officials would have a different take.

Balsa wood handles can certainly break under what most would consider reasonable force. That is not the case with the construction we saw in VA, and I imagine the other posters in this thread saw. Repeated damage to the field is specifically called out in the rules, while the rules address how it is handles when the damage is caused by a robot, I would not see any issue with the rule being applied to the entire team.

There is nothing wrong with a hard stop for something travelling at speed, Damage can be prevented through a combination of material selection, and smart use. Material selection was clearly an issue in Australia, use can and should be coached, no need to try to accelerate the door through the hard stop.

In match 12 of the Colorado regional I got to watch fieldside as a blue alliance human player threw a pool noodle across the entire field and landed it on the red drivers. Needless to say those drivers were quite confused, and I was quite impressed.

That is actually incredible.

I don't think it was steroids. Midichlorians, perhaps.

Teams at the Center Line district started to call 818's human player 'Noodle Jesus' because of his accuracy and how far he could throw.

At Rhode island, 2168's human player was incredible. Throwing 10/10 noodles in many matches, they had the #1 litter score by far.

Our human player, inspired by 2168's awesomeness, has improved a lot for Hartford, and we now have the highest litter score.

He also has a nice technique for throwing noodles into completed stacks that are on the scoring platform.

Hmmmmmm... could the noodle agreement be back? A blue noodle behind the red alliance wall.. I don't think the GDC planned for this one.
