You Guess: Event with 'Most Competitive' Elimination Matches

This past weekend, Week 4, there was only one event that had every single Semifinal match score over 100 AND had two alliances eliminated in the Quarterfinals with QAs from those matches over 100 (i.e. 6 alliances had QAs above 100)... descriptive of an event that was competitive from the beginning to end of elims.

The event may surprise you... it wasn't an event with the perennially-elite powerhouses, a field perceived as being especially deep, or with a long team list. It wasn't Waterloo, Sacremento, Bayou, or Wisconsin. Nor was it Purdue, West Michigan, or Rhode Island. Most of these events came close to meeting both these categories... but only one met them both (I think the first such event)... The UNH District here in New Hampshire.

Very proud of the depth of field that made it possible for UNH to be so competitive throughout... despite the weirdness with those Finals matches! Wish I'd been able to attend and see it in person!

*As a sidenote, I'm not saying that the winning alliance at UNH was stronger than the winning alliance at Waterloo, Sacremento, or wherever else... just pointing out the depth of field necessary to accomplish this, particularly at a small event.

Northern New England as a whole has really stepped it up this year. Which is odd considering how much time we all lost due to snow. Most teams I talked to said they lost a week or longer of work days. Glad to see it hasn't stopped any of us.

Looks like a very exciting Playoff!

Welcome to the power of the districts. Technically it is the power of the 2nd play (IE having a redo) which means that almost every team can now play the game to some effect. This year especially, some of the very good first outings turn into great during their second outings. Some mediocre performances first round are turning into really good.

I was at St. joe this past weekend, and it was a bit of a sleeper for how good it was. At St. Joe, the lowest QA (40th place) was around 53. This was the QA for the #13 ranked team at Howell (week 1), and would have been #2 at both Southfield and Standish!
This obviously does not mean the 40th place team could hang with the #2 teams at those events, but it does speak to the overall scoring quality of the event.

Agreed that this will certainly be exceeded at CMP and all the DCMPs... and I think it will be exceeded at several Regionals or Districts in the next two weeks too.

I'm not surprised to hear this - New England has always had strong teams and competitive events :)

In weeks 1-3, there were 3 events with every alliance in the semis with an average above 100, Dallas (1), Los Angeles (3), and Utah (3). Utah had 5 alliances with 100 or better in the quarters. In Week 4, there were 6. Really looking forward to week 5.

Nathan's statement is slightly more exclusive. Not just a QA over 100 in semis, but their lowest scoring match was still over 100.

I'm going to say that the IN district championship is going to be EXTREMELY competitive. We are going to have amazing human feeder bots (5188, 1501, 829, 1024, 234), awesome landfill bots (71, 1720, 868), and even some container conntessours (1741, 71)

That is a stat worth noting! Congratulations to the teams, I hope there is room for all of them at the District Championship!

I think Hartford CT will be brutal this weekend!

Several teams in attendance have wins already:

95
173
195
230 (x2)
236
3146
3464

And there are some finalist teams:

558
4557

Plus numerous semi-finalists and technical award winners. (Apologies if I missed your team.)

I think that the teams at Hartford will have the depth of talent and experience to make it the most competitive event in NE, but the scores will tell the story on Sunday! I am quite excited.

+1. A lot of the teams have made amazing displays already, and I'm sure that we will see lots of improvements ;)

I would be Finger Lakes this week would have all semi final alliances over 100. So many "upper middle class" teams there. No real stand out powerhouses that often when out of town teams don't come but I feel that it might be the deepest event in FIRST.
