Re: 2015 Arizona West Regional
I forgot to mention in my earlier post that I make use of Danny Diaz's excel macro for calculating the Qualification points earned in the spreadsheet. If you'd like to download the macro for your own editing or to look at the code you can find it here:
http://www.chiefdelphi.com/media/papers/3117 Thank you all for pointing out some of the specifics on the AIA document. That information is how I have modeled the spreadsheet. Only robot judged awards add 5 points to a team's score, so in the case of team 60 of the 4 awards they won at Arizona East they only receive 5 points for the Excellence in Engineering Award (Regional Finalist is not a judged award, and George and Rebecca's Woodie Flowers Finalist and Dean's List Finalist Awards are not robot awards, though the individual awards won by them are indicative of how strong a team 60 is). In the case of Chairman's submission you only get the bonus once which is why the column is a True/False selection rather than counting how many times it was submitted for. Similarly the Chairman's award is an auto-bid regardless of which event it was won at; the only team this effects is 2375 who won Chairman's at their third event this past weekend at Arizona West. |

http://aiaonline.org/activities/robotics Donut was close, I think Chairman's and tie-breakers bit him. I had a theory that going to the later (West) regional would be an advantage. I was wrong. 19 teams qualified from Arizona East, 4 from Arizona West, 3 on chairman's wins (though 1 would have made it otherwise, from AZ East), 4 from out of state first regional's. See ya in Prescott |

Great to see we qualified after a mediocre 1st regional. Looking forward to seeing everyone at Championships and State Championships...

Re: 2015 Arizona West Regional
4985 is excited to qualify!
On the AIA tournament guide it says we have the 6 hours of unbag time between the last competition and the AIA tourney; whereas the Admin manual for districts can only use those 6 hours in the week before the district event. I assume we go by the AZ AIA guidelines and can unbag whenever we want [with the 6 hour rules] until the tournament? |
Re: 2015 Arizona West Regional
Looking for teams who are planning to attend BOTH Championships and AIA AZ State Championships...
It seems robots will not be back for 4-8 weeks. This looks to me to affect 13 teams... Is there a way that we can work out a "robot-pool" or something? Our team is not having any drivers (all flying), and are excited for our first ever trip to Championships. However, saddened by the idea that many of the teams would not get to go to the State Championships to compete, since we won't have our robot back. This seems ridiculous, and paying private freight does not seem viable. Is any Arizona teams (1011, 1726, 842, 2486, 4183, 4841, 4146, 60, 5465, 5059, 3785, 3944...) having any drivers and might have extra space? Or could we rent a uhaul and have someone drive it back, or a uhaul trailer attached to an already traveling vehicle? |

Re: 2015 Arizona West Regional
It's hard to say how long it will take to get our robots back. We will have about a month...and the last time I was involved with the robot shipping several years ago, we were warned it would take a long time to get our robot back, and it showed up in less than a week.
I'm still not sure how I'm getting to Champs, but I don't really want to drive, since I have a trip planned to go drag racing in Indiana in June, and another to St Louis for more racing in September. |
