Division Pre-Scouting
Hey all,
I wanted to make a common google docs spreadsheet for division pre-scouting this year. I know every year each division ends up with their own spreadsheet with a bunch of information on it, and I thought it would be nice to have a common format. I threw together a spreadsheet that I've linked below and I want to get some community input on it. The first sheet has all of the team information on it, when the divisions are released we can put in all the team numbers, and then everyone can fill it out with information they know. The second sheet is a basic statistics sheet based off of the information on the first page. Is there any other information you would like to know, any other statistics you think it would be cool to have, or anything at all you think should be added/changed? Let me know what you think and I will try to keep up with suggestions for things to include, I want this to be the best division scouting sheet for RR possible! Thanks! General Spreadsheet Format |
Re: Division Pre-Scouting
wouldn't it be better if you had 1 sheet per division? Or is this just for every robot going to champs?

This looks really cool. Good to see a organized sheet like this one.
If you want some help once divisions are released, let me know. Also, congrats on winning the Chairmans Award! |
Re: Division Pre-Scouting
This is a really cool spreadsheet. These are just some stuff that I have been looking at (especially earlier on when I was tracking events / reveal videos more closely) because I thought the split was interesting. They're probably not all possible to put in, but I put the ones that I think could be added fairly easily at the top:
- Weight - Landfill or human player? - Can they use sideways containers? - If they do step containers, how many? (Maybe make it a number input rather than a 1 or 0?) - If they have an auto set or container set, how many of each do they get? (same as above?) - Are they a purely stacking or capping robot? These are the ones that were harder to quantify and that are less important: - If they can use sideways containers, do they right them or stack them sideways? - If they get totes from the human player, do they have a preference to the side they use, and to which scoring platform they put the stacks on? - If they have an auto stack, do they knock over containers? - If they do coop, how many do they put down? Can they only do it first, at certain heights, or at any heights? - Do they have a predictable pattern? If so, what is it? - Average height of stacks / number of stacks (compared to max) - Ability to drive over scoring platform - Ability to drive over noodles |

Re: Division Pre-Scouting
Maybe ramp should be two categories, those that allow you to queue up 3+ totes and those that let you do just the one at a time.
|
Re: Division Pre-Scouting
Maybe in the teleop section, there should be input for ideal stack configuration that has columns for number of stacks, number of totes in each stack, whether or not the stack has an RC on it, and whether there is litter in/on the RC.

Re: Division Pre-Scouting
I like it. I particularly like the section where you differentiate between capping your own stack or someone else's. In addition, I would add which Center/Step RC's are grabbed and how often the robot misses getting them.

Re: Division Pre-Scouting
I like it! I'll definetely be helping fill this out, seeing as I've done similar before.

Re: Division Pre-Scouting
I think we need to be careful not to put in too much information. Less information with more team participation than getting lots of information from a handful of teams that are willing to input it in. Also, there are plenty of ways to simplify many of the variables for example, instead of having 1/0 for the different ways a robot gets totes (hp, ramp, landfill). Also step containers can be moved to the canburglar section. Otherwise it looks pretty good. I'm not a fan of the events, event wins, awards section because it doesn't tell you anything specific about the robot.

Re: Division Pre-Scouting
This is a great thing to do with my time... im not even going to champs, nor is my team. But I need something to do, and it is entertaining watching 10+ people editing the same document at the same time.

Re: Division Pre-Scouting
I added my team (2990). Looks like a great system! I'll have our scouters look at it during Champs!

Re: Division Pre-Scouting
If you added information, I suggest you verify it's still in the right place. I put stats in for my team yesterday and today I found some of it 3 places above and half the information just missing altogether.
For those editing, please make sure you keep all the rows together, and sorting the main sheet is a sure fire way of messing up data. |
Re: Division Pre-Scouting
I appreciate that you took the time to make a standard template this year. I also like that all the divisions are on the same sheet this year. Last year sometimes I wasn't able to find one of them.
The only thing that I would suggest adding is on the role allow for a both human player and landfill option. While those robots are rare, there have been a few that can use both the human player station and the landfill. Also for anyone interested in even more data. Check out http://thebestalliance.com/ for data collected throughout the season in addition to an app that teams can use to scout on their division. |
Re: Division Pre-Scouting
It might make since to add a field for a contact for communication at champs.

Friendly reminder:
- comments like "D-bags from north jersey" - changing teams names to offensive remarks - making weights/times of can grabs -deleting all of the data Is not cool. Please stop. |
Re: Division Pre-Scouting
We should make an application form to edit, and everyone else can only view. This could prevent things stated above and below, as well as tell us who is doing something, so they can be punished for their actions.
For the trollers out there: Please Stop: This is a project for all FRC teams Gracious Profesionalism This is a resource for all FRC teams, and people are working hard on this. I am not even attending champs, but working on this to help other teams. Please make the right choice, and be matureAlso, no profanic or racial slurs directed at anyone. FIRST would not approve of this behavior, nor would your mentors or coaches or parents. |
Re: Division Pre-Scouting
Due to people sabotaging the spreadsheet I have made it view only for now. I don't have time to figure out setting up an entry form for it or anything right now. If anyone is interested in doing so let me know.
I'd love to make it open to everyone again but we've had to restore all the data 3 times already, so until people stop trying to mess it up for everyone it will have to be that way. I have made a 3rd backup copy that (hopefully) will stay clean. I have set it so people can edit it and input their robot info for now. If it doesn't stay together then we will just lose some data and that's it. Again, if anyone is interested in setting up the form let me know. Data input sheet |

Interesting pranks going on. I think someone turned the OPR column into a random number generator as well... |
Re: Division Pre-Scouting
I would gladly create a form for input if that is alright
|
Re: Division Pre-Scouting
It seems like every time I check the spreadsheet, our teams information changes. It makes it difficult to trust the validity of the information for any of the teams...
|
Re: Division Pre-Scouting
Can the sheet not be view-only anymore?
I can't add to the spreadsheet. |
Re: Division Pre-Scouting
If you want to request to edit the sheet, use this form:
https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1EpF...?usp=send_form Thanks! As of now, you should instead use the one posted by Rachel Lim to put in your data. |
Re: Division Pre-Scouting
Form to submit your team's information:
http://goo.gl/forms/DiZVWpM2gI Because the spreadsheet had been messed up several times, we decided to make it comment only and have the above form for teams to submit their information through. The submissions will then be checked through before they are added to the spreadsheet. If you have corrections or edits to make to the information after you submit the form, you can either comment on the spreadsheet, submit the form again, or sent the correction to me or StAxis. Please let me know if you see any errors in the form, or have any questions or suggestions about it. Notes: 1. Please keep the submissions relevant. Although some of the descriptions are funny, it means means we have to spend more time making sure it's all correct. (Also, the "other" fields are if there are slight variations to the descriptions, not random comments...) 2. If you'd like to help edit the form, or move the submitted data into the spreadsheet, please PM me with your email and I'll add you. 3. Please use the form and use the comment feature only if you have small changes to make. If the comment feature is abused, we'll disable it and make everyone resubmit, which would be annoying to everyone else, so please don't make us do that. |
