Bag and Tag at Worlds

Can someone direct me to the info about opening the bagged robot at worlds. I read we can open the bag once the crate is open with out inspection of the tag. Is that true ?

Section 5.4 of the admin manual states:
Quote:

You may not open your bag until:
a. it has been checked, approved by an on-site robot inspector, AND
b. the pits have officially been opened for robot work. You must have your Robot Lock-Up Form ready for review at the event. Do not forget to bring it.
It makes no exemptions from this policy for champs. I haven't seen anything from FIRST saying that bags won't be checked. Unless you are informed otherwise by FIRST, don't open your bag at the event without talking to an inspector first!

Where did you read this? Unless it is an official first source, you will need to have your tag cleared by an inspector.

I don't think so... at least not yet.
The permission to do that was for LAST year....

We have not heard that this can be done this year yet.
Given the issues with getting permission to unbag and dissemble robots and such I would be surprised if they will allow it.

My personal opinion is that they should simply do away with bagging for CMP. If you get your robot in your crate and get it shipped after your last event that should be good enough.... obviously you can't be working on it...

Remember when that is all we ever did? for ALL events.... It was not that long ago... we sent robots in crates everywhere... no bags... seemed to work then....

To me it is a useless thing to have to do now when a crate is used. Can't we just use the crate as the bag?...

Maybe next year

We had our robot in it's bag for almost a week before the crate got put on a truck headed for St Louis.

Used to be we put the robot in a crate on stop build day, and never had it in our possession outside of a regional event.

Thank,s I must remember that from last year.

Yeah, the no bag inspection was from last year. As others have said, with the large amount of teams receiving permission to unbag to fit in the crate, I would expect an inspection to be required this year.

According to the FRCTeams Twitter account,

Quote:

@FRCTeams: THIS JUST IN: No bag or lock up form inspections at @FIRSTChamp. Teams can just unbag and get to work! #omgrobots

So, get your crate open as soon as you get there Wednesday, no hassle from inspectors!

We're now just one step away from eliminating bag and tag entirely.

A bet a bunch of robot inspectors just issued a sigh of relief. :)

I wouldn't say that. The size of the championship event requires streamlining, however the basic bag-and-tag requirement keeps over eager hands off the robot pretty well. Even honest folks can be tempted to 'just take the wire off' or 'just tighten that bolt' when there isn't a barrier.

I'm betting bag and tag isn't going anywhere, and I really don't mind it.

I hope not, we like getting a little rest between build and competition.

Re: Bag and Tag at Worlds

My opinion is that they will not require bags to go into crates to come to CMP next year. Not much point in doing that.... the crate IS the bag. Seal the crate.

I don't see them eliminating bag and tag for other events though.....

Re: Bag and Tag at Worlds

Not bagging would have given us an extra week to play with the robot....we had other things to do, like finding money and making travel arrangements.
