Championship event questions from newbie

Hello - Two pretty specific questions about the championship event from a mentor of a team who hasn't been before...

1. Do all participants get some sort of lanyard / badge holder? We talked about getting them for our team to hold id, schedules, maps, etc. after hearing how well they worked for other school trips, but then heard FRC passes them out to all registrants. Also, if they do pass something out, does anyone know what size they are?

2. Is there anywhere in the venue where one can get internet access? I need to work during some of the event and would like to avoid a round trip to the hotel to do it. (I'm guessing there are nearby wifi hotspots at a Panera or the like, but obviously being closer to the action is preferable.)

Thanks!

on this question, they had a free wifi area on the second floor last year, but don't expect light speed internet ;)

It is my understanding that there will badges of some sort this year. Note that this is something new so unfortunately we probably can't tell you the sizes or even if they are lanyard type badges. There is a possibility the one of the volunteers or someone at FIRST has a better answer. But if you really want the students to have that available then you could do your own which could be replaced with the FIRST badges. Sorry I don't have more detailed info on this.

I ordered a CMP MetroPass in advance and it came with it's own lanyard and holder the size of the pass (which I'd put at about 3" x 4"). I'd assume that the ones that they're selling onsite would have that too.

Brief side note - a $20 pass was sent via Certified Mail with Return Receipt and in a padded envelope. This cost about $8 just in postage not to mention the cost of the envelope and lanyard, which they charged me $2 of (total order $22). And these people wonder why they're having financial issues.....just slap it in a first class mail envelope and call it a good day.

Based on my experience last year I wouldn't expect to rely on that internet for work purposes.
