Championship Reminders

Just a few reminders I think many can benifit from... Feel free to post more if you think of any!

1. DRINK LOTS OF WATER. THIS IS NOT OPTIONAL. The pits are warm, outside is warm (at least to us northerners) and it shoudlnt be a "I got thirsty and had a sip of water from the drinking fountain." It should be "I drank a bottle of water in the morning and one after lunch" or something like that. We don't want people feinting from lack of water.. While I understand you get excited, it is important everyone be getting fluids that ARENT soda in their bodies. Soda dehydrates you.

2. EAT! It seems silly that I would remind people of this, but I know that students (and us mentors!) have a tendency to get so focused on what was happening on the field and with the bot or chairmans or safety that we often feel hungry, then push it aside to deal with it later, then dont. Like I said, we REALLY dont want people feinting. Its not fun to deal with :(

3. DEODORANT OR ANTIPERSPIRANTS. Pls. We dont want to smell you in all the worst ways. Nothing against you, but we do have a tight closed in space and it sucks when things get smelly :(

4.SAFETY GLASSES. Just cuz you are along the side of the pits, on the way down to the field, on the field, behind the field or anywhere else in-between those stretches doesnt mean that you can take them off- we are here to make sure you are safe, and I really hate having to yell at people for not protecting their eyes.

5. VISIT THE COLLEGES AND COMPANIES THAT ARE HERE. They want to talk to you, and you should want to talk to them! Its never too early to talk to colleges.

6. Have FUN. Championships are all about fun- whether you are dancing, visiting FLL, FTC, or teams that you have never talked to before, feel free to get out there, say hello, meet new people and learn things you didnt know about others, teams, places, dances too maybe!

7. Say thank-you to the venue staff- They are there making the event go smoothly, and they are doing a wonderful job. We should be awesome examples of FIRST and how outgoing of a program we are and say thanks!

8. CLEAN UP MESSES! We represent FIRST, and although I know its unreasonable to expect people to pick up every scrap of paper on the floor, if you see something easy, pick it up and throw it away. Pop can? Recycle it! Heading from the stands to the pits? Pick up a piece of trash on the way down and pitch it. Its small things like this that makes things look so much cleaner!

9. Did I mention have Fun? Yeah, thats pretty dang important.

Re: Championship Reminders

Couldn't agree more. Points 1,2,5 and 6 especially. All things I wish I had done/should have done the last time I went to champs.
