How to teach a blender/safety animation prep class
I am the media department head/animation department co founder (of this generation). Last season (recycle rush) me and my partner spent some time and put together a simple and very rushed safety animation which can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0JlBhzxbm4I the animation/modeling was done by me and my partner, while the vocals/editing was done by me. This coming year we would like to teach a class to our veterans and coming rookies about all that is needed to make a safety animation (but mostly the animation) and I was wondering what is the best way to go about doing this and also how do I get my teammates interested?

As a self-taught Blender animator, I would make sure anyone interested in animating got used to the software ASAP, because the learning curve is really high. Also, I would suggest teaching only a few students since not everyone will like/need to use animation (only a smaller team), and the more people you are teaching the harder it will be. Start out showing the basic modeling tools (grab, rotate, scale, extrude, etc.) and the GUI. Eventually, show everyone how to keyframe for animation, use materials and textures, camera movement, and lighting. After you cover the main topics for the animation and modeling, then you can cover the arguably easier part: the audio.
As I'm sure you know, the modeling is the bulk of an animation, and none of the mainstream animation software is easy to learn, much less master. Don't expect anyone to learn Blender well enough in a month to create an animation of decent quality, it takes a lot of time. Also, this is a small thing, but if you haven't looked at it yet you should consider using the Cycles Rendering Engine. If you have more CPU and time to render, it really does produce nice lighting and effects, though it is more difficult to use. |

Ok thanks about how many people max is enough and also how does pixar's renderman engine work?

I don't have enough knowledge to answer either of those questions for you, use your best judgment and resources online but I would guess 5-10 people unless more were sincerely interested in learning.

Are there any other software out there for animation that is easier or more user friendly than Blender?
Please forgive my nievete because I don't know much about it but my team wants to do an animation this year and I have no idea how to teach them. Any information is greatly appreciated! |
