What's left for former FIRST leaders?
Posted by Anton Abaya at 04/13/2001 7:59 PM EST
Coach on team #419, Rambots, from UMass Boston / BC High and If only we had free donuts.... Yes yes yes rumor is true. I've resigned from leading Rambots. I will miss them. But the story as to why I did it surpasses the scope of this message. (i'm confident they will survive, i'd been planning it all year) So basically i've been wondering what's left after FIRST? After being chained to a robot and whipped around like a rag doll to build a robot, to teach high school students about robots and life, and all that other good stuff (cough), what's left? Battlebots anyone(TRAITORS!!) ? Or perhaps a new team (a new headache)? Or should I now take care of my love life (wait didnt i do that with robotics) ? Or should I learn something new like Yoga (ouch)? For now, I think I'll leave the future a blank. I'm sick of planning things. Time to take care of myself for now and maybe something might come of this extended unplanned vacation. Who knows? ciao FIRST. -anton ps. Dean Kamen, if I hear your name one more time....imma gonna.... blank IT up your IT and blank IT to the next IT that passes by. (no pun intended) pps. i wonder if nick237 is still in FL... |

I know that you wanted to leave since last year, but can't you wait for 1 more year before you leave so us juniors can have 1 more great robotic year before we leave for college??? After you leave, you must visit us sometimes. Your trustworthy high school student, Jeff Wong P.S. Anton, i'll tell you when I have parties in the summer alright?? P.P.S. May Corliss and I become temporary co-leaders while we figure out whats gonna happen next year?? |

I limited myself to advising my son (Steve) and helping with the regional, and I found it nearly impossible to concentrate on anything - work, home projects, etc. except FIRST during Nationals. My advice would be to leave those days available (Kickoff, regionals, and Nationals), in case you suffer from severe withdrawl and find you need a trip to Florida..... You also could volunteer to help at a regional. I did it this year and it was a very good experience. Good Luck whatever you do next... |
