That was quick. Someone asked about it earlier today!

I wish my team was closer. It would be really nice to do some off-season events.

You do know that there are typically 3-4 offseason competitions in MN, and a number of workshops events, right?
Hopefully someday I'll be able to make it over for Chezy Champs. Last year's event looked like a blast, and I anticipate this years to be as fantastic.

2073's application is submitted!
We are looking forward to this excellent event again this year.

As for rule changes, I'm hoping processed/non-processed litter becomes less of an issue. It made scoring for the Ref's a bit more difficult than necessary.

Would it also be possible to allow Robots to move Litter across the Co-op platform without penalty? That might make for some interesting strategy adjustments as well as allow for some interesting mechanism designs between now and then.

Pat Fairbank 23-05-2015 16:11

Re: Team 254 Presents: Chezy Champs 2015

Here is the tentative list of rule changes for Chezy Champs:
Quote:

  1. Each alliance may place up to three additional recycling containers anywhere on their side of the field, except for the AUTO ZONE, prior to the match.

  2. The left-hand (when viewed from the alliance station) line of five gray totes against the step will be right-side up.

  3. The right-hand (when viewed from the alliance station) line of five gray totes against the step will be removed and the totes will be placed in the alliance station instead. The space they occupied will be filled by moving the remaining nine right-hand landfill totes up against the step, while maintaining their orientation relative to each other.

  4. During the autonomous period, robots may not contact the two recycling containers on the left side of the step (when viewed from the alliance station). Violation: Red card.

  5. No points are awarded for processed or unprocessed litter, but litter in recycling containers will be scored as per the official rules.

  6. One alliance's litter may not contact anything on the other alliance's side of the field. Violation: Yellow card.

  7. Litter may be introduced over the alliance station wall at any point during the teleoperated period.

  8. Causing yellow totes to transfer to the other side of the field while attempting to coopertate will not result in a foul.

  9. Yellow totes are counted as gray totes when scored on the scoring platform, during the entire tournament.

  10. Playoff rounds are head-to-head, best of three, using the 2014 bracket structure.

  11. Any number of alliance members may be within the human player zone during the teleoperated period.

  12. Alliance members may contact the chute door and totes simultaneously.

  13. Teams must be able to demonstrate, if asked by the head referee, that their robot fits within the TRANSPORT CONFIGURATION, but may transport their robot however they see fit.

This effectively eliminates the chute door as one HP can hold the door open while another feeds totes into the chute. Any plans to physically get rid of the door altogether?

Not a bad idea, that. Speaking from the perspective of someone dealing with this at a pre-season event, I think the tote landing was more consistent.

1) Are the extra 3 RCs allowed to be in contact with a robot? Can they be supported, fully or otherwise, by a robot? Do the original RCs have to be within the staging zones, as per the official FRC rules?

2) When will the corn dog food truck be on campus?

That was the original thought, but someone pointed out that some robot designs might depend on the door existing, to control tote velocity or the like. What we are going with seems like a good compromise.

There's no restriction on how the extra RCs can be placed or what they can contact. You just obviously can't put them in the auto zone get a free container set. The original RCs have to be in compliance with the official rules, though like IRI we won't make a fuss about teams adjusting them while setting up.

To whom to do we make checks payable? Although we won't know the application status until June 9th, I need to put a check request in with the school while we're still in session, which only lasts another week, in order to make the July payment deadline.

Thanks.

You can make checks payable to Bellarmine College Prep. We'll also be providing a credit card option for teams who prefer that.

G24 ROBOTS may not cause TOTES, RECYCLING CONTAINERS, and/or LITTER to completely transfer from their side of the FIELD,
or from the STEP, onto the opposite side of the FIELD.
VIOLATION: FOUL. If egregious or strategic, RED CARD and offending ROBOT will be DISABLED.
I'll throw this out there since we're not going.

With the chute door held open would a passive mechanism using only bearings (think flat 254 ramp) allow you to throw totes onto the other side of the field at your opponents by slamming them through the chute door as hard as you possibly can? Can a human throw it hard it enough to knock over a stack? My guess is this wouldn't work, but boy do I want to see someone try.

Also, gaurd rail blocking still sounds legal.

Does this mean alliances will get to battle over the completed co-op stacks? I know it's horrible, yet for some cruel reason I still really want to see it happen. :o

We are updating the wording of #4 to take care of that:
Quote:

4. During the autonomous period, robots may not contact the two recycling containers on the left side of the step (when viewed from the alliance station), or attempt to prevent the opposing alliance from doing so. Violation: Red card.

Yeah, I don't know if a tote could even knock down a full stack if it was a foot in front of the door.

Will four Recycling Containers still be on the step? If so on the right side of the landfill where totes have been removed is the line marking the landfill in the same place or will teams be able to set up closer to the step in Autonomous.

The placement of RCs on the step and all markings on the field will remain the same as in the official rules.

Hi everyone,

We came to the realization today that the timeline is kind of aggressive and we're not really in a hurry since Chezy Champs is a few weeks later this year. So we're going to push the dates back by a month:
  • Applications closed: Sunday, July 5 at 9pm PDT
  • Team list finalized, invitations sent: Thursday, July 9
  • Registration payment due: Thursday, August 6 at 9pm PDT

If any team needs an early heads-up as to whether they will make the roster, due to travel planning or whatnot, shoot an e-mail to chezychamps@team254.com and we will do our best to accommodate.

Souvenir-wise, we'll be selling Chezy Champs T-shirts and hats, and Team 254 hats (all pictured on the form). At the event itself you'll also be able to buy sunglasses and Team 254 T-shirts.

Regrettably, we do not have the logistical capabilities to ship pre-orders; they are for pickup at the event only.

That would be my guess. It is difficult to arrange the out of state travel so early in the school year. They had spots open I believe so I don't think they turned anyone down.

We(1318) were able to make Chezy Champs work in 2014 because it was the weekend before school started. The decision to move chezy champs back a few weeks made it so that the students would have needed to miss school in order to make the trip. Unfortunately this years game does not make the missed school and expense worth it.

Exactly what Spencer said. Its much easier to have a trip during the summer, rather then less then 2 weeks after school has started. I know the decision to run it during school was to allow new members to see, but it does make it much harder for further teams to attend.

Makes sense. If next years game was better, would you register? Or would the timing still force a no-go?

It turns out that streaming 1080p 60fps video while uploading 1080p 60fps video to YouTube was a little much for this network to handle. Chezy Champs has stopped the uploads for now and the stream is back and stable.
Unfortunately, the stream availability would have happened regardless of which streaming service was used.

Guess we can't have everything. :P

EDIT: Goes to #2 alliance with a score of 318-314 with a total of 15 (8 on blue, 7 on red) recycling containers scored.

Re: Team 254 Presents: Chezy Champs 2015

After Chezy Champs last year, we were talking about it at a leaders meeting shortly after, and I said something like "it's exactly what I would expect if 254 was running an event." That's still true, and thank you to 254 for another amazingly well organized/run event, including everything from the modified game to the amazing video/audio quality (that was so good that a couple of us watched our matches from the TV in the hallway instead of going into the gym).

Congratulations to the winning alliance, 3476 + 971 + 968, and to the finalist alliance, 254 + 973 + 604. Those were some very, very intense matches, and probably the closest head-to-head matches that I've seen in person this year.

Huge congrats to 3476, 971 and 968 on the win. Special kudos to the kids on 971 for designing, building, and executing such an awesome machine over the summer. Your hard work paid off!

Once again, 1678 had a blast at Chezy Champs! 254 puts on the most fantastic event. Great atmosphere, friendly volunteers, bullet proof FMS, team-centered culture, quality audio/video production. Like we saw last year, 254 is raising the bar and showing everyone in California what is possible with a little money and a lot of hard work!

We're still trying to decide if we'll go to Chezy Champs North or Chezy Champs South in 2016, if we get a choice at all...

We had a wonderful time at Chezy Champs! As always, the atmosphere was relaxed, but the action on the field was intense.

Thanks to 254 and company for running the event. The rule changes came pretty darn close to fixing recycle rush. We are grateful to them for the opportunity to compete this weekend. Shout out to the swamp coolers and the volunteers who moved them around throughout the weekend. You da real MVPs.

Thanks to our alliance partners, 1678 and 1671. It was nice to finally see the 3 of us on the field, with 118 being there through our cangrabbers. It's always fun to play with these two. It's too bad Murphy's law struck us in the semifinals.

Congrats to 3476, 971, and 968 on the win! 3476 has been on fire all weekend, getting better and better each match. We were certainly excited to see them pull off a W. 971's rebuild was a beautiful, effective machine that was definitely one of our favorite robots this weekend. To 968 - your robots have been an inspiration to me since I was a student. It's always really cool to see RAWC do well.

I'm sure I've missed a lot of people and teams.

See you at Battle at the Border!

Kudos to the Team 256 and all the volunteers for pulling off another outstanding competition, and thank to Bellarmine for their support for for picking up the power bill. The rule changes sure helped change the character of the competition in a good way.

And wow, what an amazing final match.
