2015 FIRST Design Book - Still time to submit information

Greetings -

A number of teams expressed an interest is submitting information for publication consideration in the 2015 FIRST Design Book.

The material that has come in so far has been quite strong, but there is still time for other teams to submit material. If your team is interested in being considered for profiling in the book, please drop us a note to FRCBook2015@usfirst.org.

Cheers - Vince Wilczynski and Stephanie Slezycki

Wow, I'm surprised that I hadn't heard about any of these books before. I may get the 2007 version for my team but can anyone give me a quick synopsis of what is in the book? For instance, does it give details on the parts and methods used to build the robots? Basically, is there enough detail on the robots that someone could emulate the processes used?

Sorry to hijack the thread, feel free to delete this if need be.

I have the 2006 version, and each team had their own section that focused on one thing they did well in their process, while showing other steps along the way.

They are books filled full of desire and envy. They are evil. They show what really smart roboteers can do with paper and spit. OK that and a milling machine. They will spin you into a deep hole of "what we could be".

Each robot presented has a focus so they go "we built a base and a claw and some other stuff but this is the details about X". As a collection they are a great resource for ideas on how other teams solved problems in a creative way. There isn't 'detail' but you can figure out what they did and replicate it if you needed to.

I've got the earlier books and will be buying this book. They are a recommended read across the Christmas Holiday break so your mind is bubbling with ideas for kickoff.

Where is the best place to buy the older editions of the books? Sounds like great reading :)

Amazon link for the book

Thanks, I ordered a copy of the 2006 book. The pricing of the 2007 book on Amazon suggests that it is out of print and hard to find...

I wish I had some useful content from my team to submit for the 2015 book. All I have are random photos.

Hhm, a lot of the Amazon reviews say that there really isn't enough detail to understand the 'how' of a lot of these designs. Maybe I'll stick with the 2006 version because it is a lot cheaper. Even a display of successful designs can be somewhat helpful.

Is there a date that information must be submitted by to be considered for the book?

the 2007 hardcopy version of the book on amazon is beautiful and is a great coffee table book, probably why the price is so high. Definitely worth getting both years because even if you don't get all of the details of the design, you get enough to inspire students to design similar mechanisms.

Re: 2015 FIRST Design Book - Still time to submit information

We are working over the summer to have the book published before the 2016 season. Teams were asked to make submissions by May 29, but we have a little lattitude for submissions after that date. Like all things, sooner is better than later for teams that can't assemble everything by May 29. If you want more info, just drop us a note to FRCBook2015@usfirst.org and we can forward details on the project - Vince & Stephanie

We are working to finalize our submission via the Dropbox this week. Hopefully we get a spot in the final selection.

Ditto for Team 696. We hope to submit tomorrow evening. Also, just as a note, it's via Box.com, not Dropbox.

We're working hard at writing stuff also. Pro photo shoot tomorrow. We just attended the Arizona state AIA championship this weekend, so we hadn't had a chance to photograph our robot yet! I finally got some good shots of the machine doing its job on the playing field.
