Randall Munroe of XKCD...

used to participate in FIRST.

I was doing a binge read of all the XKCD What-If's. And to my surprise I found this.... :)

Before I answer this question, let me give you a little background on where I’m coming from.
...
I spent my teenage years participating in FIRST Robotics, programming software bots to fight in virtual tournaments, and working on homemade underwater ROVs. And I've watched plenty of Robot Wars, BattleBots, and Killer Robots Robogames.

Just a little tidbit. :p

Yet another reason to read XKCD!

Anyone know which team he was on?

Wikipedia says he graduated from Clover Hill Mathematics and Science High School, presumably in 2002. Searching on TBA gives two teams associated with that high school, 1541 and 638. Only 638 would have been active when he was there.

True! And I had no idea that Randall had done anything with FIRST, but that makes sense.

Comic #689 was released on 1/15/2010. Dozer was in his(?) prime then. :)

Re: Randall Munroe of XKCD...

Randall has done comics about time travel, so it's not implausible that he used his own time travel unit, came to 2015, saw the tragic end to Dozer and went back to create 2010 comic.

Ok so we all know forward time travel is impossible. So what he really did was in 2015 when Dozer dozed no more, he went back in this timeline and wrote a tribute comic. Because he changed the past, we "see" that comic today. a fitting tribute to our little buddy.
