Our team was a little shaken up by the travel
arrangements this year. So we know when to start next
year, approximately when does FIRST release the dates
for nationals? Is it always the first week in April?

I'm only a first year student (but my team is second year). I think they post the dates on the FIRST website sometime after the Kick-Off. But they should have it on their long before it starts. So just check it out after kick-off. (someone correct me if I'm wrong)
