So, the thing with satire is that it is based in some truth, which is why it resonates with audiences so much. Satire is often not funny in a "haha" sort of way but a "this makes me uncomfortable" sort of way.

When writing satire, expect that people will be outraged by your assertion. Don't get defensive and declare, "It was just a joke!"

You made people uncomfortable with your attempt at comedy. TBH, I didn't find it funny. Maybe others did, and that's fine. People find different things humorous. But maybe it also wasn't the best joke to *start* with. Your other one about programming was a better introduction.

The other thing about comedy is respecting timing.

I believe you mean a 180 as a 360 would spin you around completely and keep you pointing in the same direction :p

You mean only have one pi? Not two? But I'm still hungry!

(For those who don't get it: convert to radians first.)

Re: FIRST Comedy hour

here to start a-new
a few jokes:

1. how do you get a majority of people complaining about a game, call it recycle rush. how do you get a majority of people feeling like their voices aren't being heard. declare two championships.

2. what the only thing worse then lunacy, recycle rush.

I could go all day...... a joke is a joke doesn't matter if someone else doesn't find it funny. its a joke if you find it funny.

these crack me up.

I've always wondered who made it.

Your audience brought a pile of rotten tomatoes for you.

Here's the thing about jokes and audience: If the joke isn't appropriate for the audience it's told to, they won't find it funny, and then you won't be telling that joke there anymore. (Might not be telling any other jokes there, either.) Even if you find a joke uproariously funny, your audience might find it to be a mortal insult. I'm serious here; I can think of a couple of joke/audience combinations that could result in my getting seriously hurt.

Although, I must say, there is one joke where you don't have to worry about the audience's reaction. Too bad nobody knows what The World's Funniest Joke is, something about anybody seeing more than one word getting very seriously hurt.

Actual funny thing to post: http://youtu.be/uQ_mdx8_6A4

Apprently obligatory thoughts about natue of comedy: "Tragedy is when I cut my finger. Comedy is when you fall into an open sewer and die." -Mel Brooks

Comedy is subjective. In fact most of the Internet is just people posting stuff they find hilarious only to discover that few people agree with their assessment.

For all of you getting up in arms about the jokes made about this game... IMO i hated this game. I did not enjoy it to any extent. With this, I found this thread humorous. If you don't enjoy this thread, please, by all means, go elsewhere. I found a thread not 2 weeks ago that were talking about the good things that came out of this year's game. If you have something nice to say about recycle rush, bring it there. Don't try to defend it here.

And with that I say...

How do you incorporate FTC more into FRC? You design the game to be more like FTC
