Actually under the proposed budget, NASA gets a budget INCREASE. I don't know exactly how the money will get distributed but I do know that there were some cuts to the International Space Station and a mission to Pluto was cut. However, Mars research was increased. In all honesty, I don't know where the funding for FIRST comes from but out of speculation it'd come from NASA's education budget (I'm sure they have one). Also, education across the board has been increased under the proposed budget. Now mind you, this is a proposed budget but it's unlikely that more cuts will be made than already have.

: Well..this year our team was tight on money and
we had to pay for some of the things ourselves,
like our t-shirts, food money, and some other stuff.
It wasn't to much no more than $150-$200 a
person. Anyways next year we would like everything
paid for and ready before the season begins . And
besides getting big sponsers like NASA and other
large cooperations what other ways can we
generate money that is quick and effective. We
experminted with some fundraising activities like
selling coupon books and some other stuff but
they generated less than $300. So does anyone
have any suggestions that we could use during
this offseason.

: P.S. NASA is one our main sponsers and we
might have cutbacks in our funding because there
budget for the upcoming year has be cut so were
just preparing so we'll be ready just in case NASA
can't come thru as much as we need.

I have three things to comment on so I will make it short, K
1 How do teams with corporate sponsors get travel paid for, and also what sponsors do pay for travel.

2. To get sponsors goto your local Chamber of Commerce and get there member directory, then send a letter to all there members telling them about your robot and that you need money.

3. HAS ANYBODY THOUGHT OF GRANTS? THEY ARE SO EASY TO GET IF YOU FRASE THEM RIGHT. ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS SEARCH ON ASK.COM FOR GRANTS, YOU WILL GET HUNDREDS. ALMOST EVERY MAJOR COMPANY HAS A GRANT PROGRAM IN PLACE.

I meant which sponsors of teams pay for travel. If you are a team with one could you please list the company. I ask this because many companies don't pay for travel. My team already has most of next years robot paid for but can't get the travel paid for. I am not ungrateful but I just need ideas.
PS: Please don't take it in an ungrateful manner.

Popcan drives work well for about $200 in a weekend. Go out and flyer a subdivison with little fliers like on a thursday with info about your team and what the cans are gonna go to, and ask them to leave their cans on their porch or something and that you'll be back on Saturday or something to pick them up. Get them on Saturday (knocking on each door saturday may increase turnout) take them back to a central point to be sorted, then divvy them up and take em out to places to be returned.

Mind you this only works if your state has a deposit on cans (helps to be in Michigan, 10 cents per can), and it's rather labor intensive, expect each person to put in maybe 8-10 hours on the collection day, and make sure not to bungle with any local ordnances.
