Re: 2015 STEMley Cup Championship
We're excited to be exciting to co-host this event with MakeShift 4039. The STEMley cup is scheduled for mid November, so it will be your last chance to play Recycle Rush(+). Honestly, don't you owe your 2015 robots one last chance before sending them to the big pit in the sky? :D

We've had a great response so far for the STEMley cup championship, but we're still looking for more teams! We'd love to have more from New York, Ohio and Michigan - your dollar goes like 30% further here :)
As promised, we're making a hockey card for every team that attends the STEMley cup championship. Here's a draft of the first three to whet your appetite. Register online and we'll make one for your team too. Join us in November for the chance to collect them all. See you soon! stemleycup.wordpress.com |
Re: 2015 STEMley Cup Championship
Exactly two weeks left until the winning alliance hoists the STEMley Cup! We can't wait to see how teams approach the first ever end game for Recycle Rush: "Each alliance receives one (1) additional coloured bonus TOTE. This TOTE, which starts the MATCH in the ALLIANCE STATION, can only be introduced to the field through the TOTE CHUTE in the final twenty (20) seconds of the MATCH. This coloured TOTE doubles the point value of any scoring TOTE stack of which it is a part. (ie. a six-TOTE stack with RECYCLING CONTAINER and LITTER would normally score 42 points. If the coloured TOTE is present as one of the six TOTES, the stack will now count for 84 points)." |

I realized a better scoring that might have helped teams that had difficulty capping would have been to change the stack scoring to linear progression points instead of 2 points per tote. There is no advantage to building stacks vs. placing them singlely on the scoring platform. The scoring could have been 1+2+3+4+5+6. Total stack = 21 instead of 12, and a 3 stack scores the same as before. The mid level teams would have done much better. I think 3 stacks uncapped was achievable by many teams, and they would have had 63 points. |

Here's the coveted inaugural STEMley Cup T-Shirt! The shirts are already out for printing, but if you still want one we might be able to arrange an order after the event. Place your order here: http://goo.gl/forms/LZdpWvjfru

Re: 2015 STEMley Cup Championship
Will you ship those shirts to the US or does one have to attend the event to get one?
Thanks. |

More cool stuff:
The STEMley Cup Championship "hockey cards" just went out to print. I've attached (reduced quality) proofs. Each attending team will get a bunch of their own cards, printed on high quality glossy card stock. Teams can keep their cards, or trade with others. Individual cards will also be available for sale at our concession stand for a small fee each (or a full deck at a discount). They were a bit of work to make, so I hope everyone likes theirs! The T-Shirt question up-thread got me thinking that some people might be interested in ordering STEMley cards too. Let us know, and if there's enough interest we'll open up an order form for them too. |
Re: 2015 STEMley Cup Championship
The cards look awesome!
I noticed one mistake, I don't think KingTec borrowed 5759's robot as we have it currently. |

Absolutely love the cards. Do we have prices for a full deck yet? Or will we have to wait and see at the competition?

From what I saw on the webcast, this looked like a thoroughly well run event. Congratulations to 4039 and 5406 for putting on a great show and giving Ontario teams another chance to play this season. |
Re: 2015 STEMley Cup Championship
Had a great time at the stemley cup. I'll admit, myself and a few others on my team were concerned how the experience would be giving such a small venue compared to where we normally compete (such as small arenas and convention centres) however I must say that this event was fantastic. Matches were pretty much on schedule (I think the furthest behind we were was about half an hour max at the end of qualifications). The field crew and rest of the volunteers did a fantastic job. I hope we are able to attend again next year.

Re: 2015 STEMley Cup Championship
4039 are very grateful to the wonderful folks at Ruckus for sharing their best practices in hosting an off-season event. Based on that experience, our students decided to focus 100% of our efforts and resources on providing a quality experience for our guests and, as such, we decided to bow out of the robot competition (although ROY G BIV did make a brief cameo appearance during the lunch-time celebrity match).
Congratulations to all of the competitors at the 2015 STEMley Cup Championship and many thanks to our co-hosts 5406, and all of our incredible volunteers and sponsors! |
Re: 2015 STEMley Cup Championship
Awesome event, lots of pit space and a good amount of quals matches (7) made it really feel like full event rather than "just an offseason".
Thanks 4039/5406! Still a little disappointed no one ended up making a CO-OP stack without the other alliance by using 3 yellow totes and 1 rainbow. |
Re: 2015 STEMley Cup Championship
Any match footage? Sounds like quite an event.

OK, the unedited video of the whole day is up on YouTube now (processing now actually, should be ready in an hour):

Re: 2015 STEMley Cup Championship
YouTube muted the video due to a copyright claim with the music. Sigh. This is another reason we're happy to have a commercial webcast sponsor.
The full day video will be up at http://bunker7.ca/dl/Stemley_Cup.mp4 for the time being. I'm told there won't be any bandwidth issues. Thanks again to www.impactdj.ca |
Re: 2015 STEMley Cup Championship
Awesome event! BeaverworX had a great time, thanks Celt-X and MakeShift for an off season event that was so well run. We loved the hockey cards and the welcome from everyone on your volunteer crew. We are hoping it will be an annual event, sign us up for 2016!
Good-bye to Recycle Rush. |
