Alright, this is gonna come off a bit weird, but... Does anybody remember the old game Dr. Mario? It was a tetris variation that had a 2-player mode. Point being, the players played side by side, and there was a kind of defensive element because If you did certain kinds of combos, it'd drop extra blocks on your opponents side.

That's the kind of defense I wouldn't mind. Some kind of defense where you can indirectly hinder the opposing team/alliance by completing certain tasks. I'd be for a game where it was 2v2, but the opposing alliances were mostly seperated, except for the goals. Each alliance would have access to the opposing alliances goal($), if they wanted to descore or block or some such. That kind of game, I'd like, cause I do kind of miss the more interesting defense bots, Like the Metal Jackets in '00. Watching balls fly from the opposition's goal was kind of fun.

Kevin, you never cease to amaze me. What are you, a mind reader?

Dr. Mario's competition was great. If FIRST uses that type of game, though, we need sound effects when team A throws garbage on team B's half of the field - kind of like the "laughing" sound that Nintendo used. :)

Anyway, here is another place we can look for inspiriation - video games. What other video game constucts could be stolen for use by FIRST?

I like the Dr. Mario thing. We could for the DJ to play mixes of old video game music and stuff. Heck, I could probably even provide some of it. :^) For some reason there's a Sega Genesis, yes Genesis, laying about the house collecting dust.

:^) Only bad thing about moving the game towards some kind of video game is that it shifts the risk of damage from the robot to the drivers. I'd hate for my suggestion to give the entire first community Nintendo thumb......

As for other video games to model off of... How about Pac-Man? Chasing moving scoring items would be fun, if unfeasible for teams to practice on. Umm.. what else... Pong? Some Pong derivative would make for a weird game... I dunno. I'm sure I'll come up with something later. I'm barely conscious right now...
