$500,000 for FRC

I searched the forum for this - did not see it (MODERATORS take note if this should not be posted)...

Got this in the mail from FRC:

Greetings Teams:
$500,000 is up for grabs! Microsoft has identified nine global non-profits who will receive $500,000 each, and now they would like help in choosing the 10th. Help FIRST get out the vote to become the 10th non-profit to receive $500,000 from Microsoft!

Cast your vote — up to once a day per social platform — for FIRST to be voted the 10th global non-profit in the Microsoft Upgrade Your World Contest! You must be on Twitter, Facebook or Instagram to vote. If you are on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram, you can vote for FIRST up to 3 times a day between now and August 23rd.

Retweets and "likes and shares" do not count toward the vote totals; however, please "share" on Facebook and ask your followers to vote on their social channels, too. Please post your message to LinkedIn and ask all your contacts to vote as well! Or, simply go here and enter @FIRSTweets in the ‘voting’ box.

Example posts you can use on your own social platforms:

Twitter: I #Vote for @FIRSTweets to #UpgradeYourWorld
Instagram: Post your favorite FIRST photo with the text: I #Vote for @first_official_ to #UpgradeYourWorld
Facebook: I #Vote for @FIRST - For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology to #UpgradeYourWorld
Thank you for your assistance with making it loud and winning this potential award to FIRST!

Go Teams!

This was mentioned in the latest FRC blog thread, but I guess a separate thread for it shouldn't hurt?

Agreed Jaja - I am a usual on CD, but never check the FRC blog thread (I know, I know...)

The $500k is one thing - but the notoriety of winning the final spot would be huge for FRC. Plus, the CD and FRC community should have a strong showing with something like this!

Haha, I understand.

It would be huge if FIRST recieved the $500k. FIRST social media has expanded so much over the past couple of years, so we should be have a strong showing indeed.

Does anybody know who the primary competitors for the final spot are?

After searching on google, I found 2 other competitors that are trying to get the 500k as well. One of them is Anquan Boldin's Q81 foundation, which is a foundation dedicated to improving the educational/life opportunities of underprivileged children (Anquan Boldin is a NFL football player that plays for the 49'ers). The 2nd competitor is Wildscreen Exchange, which is a program that creates films and takes photos to tell stories about the natural world/wildlife.

Those are the only 2 competitors I found while searching on google, so there may be more.

I believe the REC Foundation is also competing. I have seen votes for them on Twitter.
