Indiana District Events Announced

Hey guys. Indiana First just announced their event sites for the 2016 year. Please note that I have no connection with Indiana FIRST. I'm just a geeky robotics student who loves to keep up to date with FIRST news and is really excited for the 2016 season.

Summary:

Week 2 (3/12-3/13) William Henry High School, West Lafayette, Indiana

Week 3 (3/19-3/20) Warren Central High School, Indianapolis, Indiana

Week 4 (3/25-3/26) Perry Meridian High School, Indianapolis, Indiana

Week 7 (4/14-4/16) Memorial Gymnasium, Kokomo, Indiana

With this said, I believe 2 event facilities are exactly the same as last year, just with different weeks. Then, the other 2 facilities, despite being different, are in the same exact cities as last year. I'm sure many Indiana teams will be very very busy through weeks 2-4. Only changes on weeks from last year is that the Week 1 event was moved to Week 2 and the District Championship is now on Week 7 instead of Week 6.

Good luck to all Indiana Teams as we prepare for the 2016 season

I'm curious what the reasoning behind a Week 7 DCMP is. I'd imagine that it's because St. Louis is drivable for Indiana teams, but does anyone know for sure what the reasoning was?

It's kinda sad that there is no Purdue event after hosting an event for 10+ years.

Not on the board, but I know venue availability played a big role in the dates falling where they did. Having a schedule that was ideal for the teams simply wasn't possible given what was available.

Probably cost reasons; Purdue is not a cheap place to rent a facility at... availability also can be a pain from what I have heard over the years.

That said, having gone to school at Harrison (Yay 1747!), it's not too far from Purdue. Not as close as Westside (461) but still pretty close... and parking is plentiful.

Shout out to my old team: To go from a team that was stuck in a paper storage room their rookie year (2006) to being a host venue for a district event is quite a nice change... I will be very happy to volunteer when March comes along.

I can verify this is correct.

Given that all of the events are on consecutive weeks and that week 3 and 4 are both in Indy, I wouldn't be surprised if the Warren event has fewer teams than the other two districts since most teams will want a break week in between events. I'm curious if any teams are considering a 3-week run to all of the districts this year.

There will be some, like last year. I wish we had the funds to do all three. The low cost is tempting.

Now comes the debate of consecutive week competitions vs travel time/distance/overnight.

With the Warren event being (Fri-)Sat-Sun and Perry Meridian being (Thurs-)Fri-Sat, that doesn't leave much time between to utilize the unbag time if you do week 3 & 4, but those are 2 "local" events for us. Decisions, decisions...

I'm not sure about finances or how other members would feel, but I'd personally love to have robotics overload for those 3 weeks.

Purdue and West Lafayette High School have spring break starting the weekend of week 2 and the ending of week 3 so I wouldn't be surprised if we make back to back appearances.

I really can't wait to see what the Michigan week one schedule is.

You don't have to. It's up now.

The TechnoKats will have a presence at all four of the events, whether or not we are competing. We provide volunteers and a comprehensive electrical distribution system for the pits and field.
