2016 MAR Events

Thought we could start a discussion of the MAR schedule for next year.

Week 1 - March 4-6 - Hatboro-Horsham - Horsham PA
Week 1 - March 4-6 - Mt. Olive - Flanders, NJ
Week 3 - March 18-20 - Springside-Chestnut Hill - Philadelphia, PA
Week 3 - March 18-20 - Seneca - Tabernacle, NJ
Week 4 - Easter - No Events
Week 5 - April 1-3 - Westtown - West Chester, PA
Week 5 - April 1-3 - Bridgewater-Raritan - Bridgewater, NJ
Week 6 - April 8-10 - Montgomery - Skillman, NJ
Week 7 - April 13-16 - MAR Champs - Lehigh University - Bethlehem, PA

I assume Olive was pushed up a week because of the later kickoff. A week 2 event would have been nice but still a good range of events to choose from. No more Upper Darby or North Brunswick, but Im happy to see the addition of Montgomery though, thanks 1403, sure to be a good event. Im un-sure of what team is hosting Westtown though. Anyone know? What events are you thinking of going to?

I believe team 1391 is from Westtown; don't know of any other teams from Westtown. It's not a certainty, but it makes me think that Moose is hosting the event

Re: 2016 MAR Events

Yes, the Metal Moose 1391 is hosting the event at the Westown School. 1640 Sabotage will be assisting.

Re: 2016 MAR Events

There seem to be more NJ events and less PA events this year. Team 423 usually attends the SCH and Seneca events (and Upper Darby last year), but they are both the same week this year so we will have to find another event to attend. The Westtown event is probably the closest to us (besides Hatboro-Horsham but we usually don't like week 1 events)

It is the exact same number of PA events, there were 3 last year + district champs and 3 this year + district champs.

Re: 2016 MAR Events

Although I have no idea what events my team is going to, I would love to go to Mt. Olive cause the quality of that event is fantastic. I know 1403 is going to do a great job with their event as well, so i'm looking forward to that. I'm also REALLY hyped and happy that there aren't any week 2 events cause that's when my senior Disney trip is . I also want to volunteer at Bridgewater since I can actually get there in under an hour, plus it seems like a good event to watch.

I've been to a couple Bridgewater events and they're always really well-ran and fun!

I will be tracking MAR event registration on this spreadsheet and doing my best to keep it updated as teams register.

Decisions decisions. We normally volunteer at SCH or Seneca, but they are both the same week this year. Oh what to do....

Re: 2016 MAR Events

A quick update on the events. Mount Olive is three slots from filling up, and Hatboro-Horsham is not far behind with six slots left. A couple of teams have dropped their registrations for events later in the season to secure one of the few remaining chances to compete at a Week 1 MAR event.

Anyway, here are some updated registration numbers:

Code:

MO: 30 / 33
HH: 27 / 33
SEN: 10 / 33
SCH: 9 / 29
BR: 4 / 33
WT: 4 / 33
MY: 4 / 33

Congrats to the first MAR rookie to register this year, Team 5895, Peddie School Robotics out of Hightstown, NJ, who registered for Hatboro-Horsham. Does anyone know how many rookies we should expect this year?

Sounds like there might be a new rookie team out of Dover, Delaware. Crazy to think that Delaware might have 5 teams, up from only 2 just 3 years ago!

There were a few other people on the "rookie" MAR mailing list - but some do spring out of the woodwork without contacting MAR.

MAR had 13, 5, and 9 true rookies over the last 3 years. From 2012-2015 MAR had 99, 109, 110, and 121 teams. So odds are somewhere in the mid-high single digits for rookies, and somewhere between 120 and 130 teams this year.

We had 8 rookies registered at this date last year, and 100 teams registered in total - so we're off the pace from last year.

357 wont be competing in MAR this year. Their last event as an FRC team is Duel on the Delaware. They will only be doing Vex as of this season.

Did they choose to leave or was it a funding situation?

It appears to be for a mix of reasons including quite a few mentors retiring from FIRST.

Re: 2016 MAR Events

With second event registration right around the corner, here are some updated numbers:

By event:

BR: 6 / 33
WT: 5 / 33
MY: 4 / 33

By team age:
Code:

Veterans registered: 101
Veterans not registered: 22
Rookies registered: 2

Veterans not registered:
Code:

357
423
555
752
816
896
1302
1672
1791
1811
2458
2554
3151

Delaware has grown from 4 to 5 teams with Razor Steel Robotics (5938) joining us at Seneca. 5938, like Palindrome (4954), is a 4H team, and they appear to be working together.

I am sorry to hear about 357. They are a good team and it's a shame to see them go.

Does anyone know of any other teams not returning next year?

Last I checked, 3314 was also registered for Buckeye.

Also, could this thread be moved to the District Event subforum?
