Re: Where did you get the name for your robot?
We go through a multi-tiered voting process, eliminating a portion of the field each round. Year to year it varies, but I'll attempt to illustrate a typical naming process below.
Students and mentors propose names for the robot, sometimes providing justifications for why a name would be cool. Then there is a secret round of voting with each person given 3 votes (no duplicate voting). We drop all names which receive less than some threshold of votes (let's say 5) OR keep the top 5. Then we have a 2nd round of voting, 2 votes each (no duplicates). The top 2 vote getters remain. Then we have a final round of voting with each student and mentor getting 1 vote. The top candidate gets to be our competition robot and the 2nd place name goes to our practice robot. |

Picking a robot name is very similar to picking a Pet's name.

548 is Cancer, as in the crab-since the robot has two pincer claws in the front.
