FYI,

Welding on the lighter gauge alum is a little harder. You need to think out the amount and placement of the welds and have a good fixture to get everything square. If you are going to be using bearings you might need to supplement the way the bearing is held in the lighter gauge alum.

Adam, I am also interested in what a half order would cost, what payment options there are, and an end date for orders.


I've found this calculator helpful in estimating weight of various materials. It seems I could shave a couple pounds on a WCD by going 1/16" wall over the .1" VersaFrame.

I believe Adam prefers full orders due to shipping (he has 8"x8" square profile boxes). That being said, organizing a group buy for teams around your area can help you get up to the minimum order size. 5188 recently organized one for Indiana and everything is going smoothly.

We just received our tube yesterday. Looks great. Didn't see any dents from shipping to Ohio. Thanks Adam for setting this up.

Sorry for a thread revival.

Since Online Metals continually sends out coupons and I had a decent one I ordered a piece of the 2x1 1/16th 6061 tube from Online Metals. While the picture shows round corners it does in fact come with sharp corners.

Adam has a cheaper option but if teams preferred going with the Online Metals version later for some reason don't worry about the picture it won't come with rounded corners.

A couple weeks now ago we received our 32 pc x 5'x 1"x 2" x 0.0625" tubes
we then split it with our friends 558 , each happy with a half order.

Teams have reached out to us asking if we are willing to sell predrilled tubing, so we're going to start doing that going forward.

We have;
1x1x1/16" predrilled w/ .201 holes on all faces on .5" intervals. $40 per 5' length.

2x1x1/16" predrilled w/ .201 holes on all faces on .5 intervals $55 per 5' length.

I'd recommend using Vex's tubing over ours if possible due to the lower price, but some teams have really wanted the .201 holes and holes on all faces.
