PS2, X-Box, Game Cube or PC

Which is your favorite?:D

Clark Gilbert 24-06-2002 18:31

Game Cube....

I voted for Game Cube, but i would have also voted for PC if i had the option...normally i play PC games, but yesterday i traded in my N64 and a bunch of games for a new Game Cube (got it for dirt cheap) and i think it's pretty cool, looks way better than PS2 (Xbox is just a computer).....

:)

Ryan Dognaux 24-06-2002 18:46

Gamecube!

I'm a big nintendo fan all the way, I've owned every one of their systems, except for Virtual Boy. Gamecube has/ will definately have better games in the near future, compared to Xbox... Xbox is horrible, it's just a run down version of a computer. My philosophy - if it has a hard drive, it's a computer. PS2 is great, my brother has one of them, but I'm for Nintendo and their great games. I can't wait for Metriod Prime and the Zelda game.

Check out my site here I'm needing some help on it

But Nintendo is and always will be the greatest!! En Taro Tassadar! - Raul

Ashley Weed 24-06-2002 18:59

I too have always been a Nintendo lover. I grew up on the machine. However, I upgraded to Play Station when they first came out, and have been very pleased with it since, until now.... (I have been very unsuccessful at finding Worms in a store.) I look forward to getting a PS2 when I go to college!

Koko Ed 24-06-2002 23:08

PlayStation2

More games.
Games that are actually not aimed at the Pokemon crowd.
It's a DVD player.
It has a future!
Count me in!

Ian W. 25-06-2002 01:22

now, this is a scary part. i've never owned a game system...until now that is. after years of begging, pleading, crying, etc., my parent's have finally caved in, and decided to buy me and my brothers a PS2 and some games, as a combined birthday/graduation (from middle and elementary school :p) gift. so, if the world ends tomorrow, we all know why ;)

Matt Reiland 25-06-2002 11:20

XBOX!!!

I have a PS2 and XBOX and while the game quality is similar, and there are more titles on PS2, The XBOX looks the coolest in a rack of AV equipment and has the capability to output in High Def although I don't have any games that do that yet. So I sold the PS2. Both play DVD's but a dedicated progressive scan DVD player is better than either. It is a PC but hey it is a heck of a lot of power in a PC (with Hard Drive) for only $199

All video games are fun on a big screen with 5000 watts of audio power to shake the room ;)

Rob Colatutto 25-06-2002 12:11

i'm deffinatly a SEGA fan....but since they went third party, i have supported Nintendo. but now with the dawn of all my favorite super computers and 128mb video cards, and with 256mb on the way and looking amazing, i will have to say computers will eliminate consols very soon

Molly Menges 25-06-2002 13:31

PS2

i have always had nintendos, but last christmas i got a PS2...it's got a lot more games that i like and it's a DVD player. can't beat that. :-)

Ryan Dognaux 25-06-2002 15:13

Why Combine?

In my opinion, gaming systems should stick to what their names imply - games, not music nor DVDs. I mean it is cool that the PS2 and Xbox and play DVDs and music, but that's why I have a CD player and a DVD player ? I don't know anyone that actually uses the DVD function on their systems, not around here anyways.

Is anyone else excited for the Metroid Prime release?!?!?! Who would've thought... Metroid... a First Person shooter, but it looks awesome, can't wait!

And o' course Nintendo has Mario! Who can resist that crazy plumber??? Oh yeah Luigi too....
Also, I'm glad Nintendo now has the Resident Evil games (yes all of them heading to the gamecube including RE 2, RE 3, and Code Veronica). The remake is great and RE O is gonna be the greatest in a while, but RE 4 will top em all.

As long as you like any kind of system though, it's all good ^o^
Video Games Rule

Madison 25-06-2002 15:31

This is the part where y'all think I'm spoiled or something.

Between my brother and I, we have NES, SNES, Genesis, Gameboy, Gameboy Color, Gameboy Advance, Playstation, Nintendo 64, Playstation 2, a Gamecube, and 3 PC's. I've done the video game thing for quite awhile, if you can't tell. I don't particularly like 'em much anymore, but each has its strong points.

Sony has the Twisted Metal series. Multiplayer vehicular combat is fun for all ages.

Nintendo has the 007 series of shooters. Again, multiplayed goodness. Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee for Gamecube, too.

That's it. That's all I'm concerned about. Oh, yeah, and Roller Coaster Tycoon II for PC. Otherwise, quite mysteriously, I don't find them to all too enthralling anymore.

I wonder why that is. Perhaps I should go reflect or something.

Dave Hurt 25-06-2002 16:19

Actually, I use my ps2 for dvd and music more then I use it to play games. Ps2 has a high definiation output cable, so Xbox isn't the only ones capable. Ps2 also has a optical digital output for sound. Not sure if the other 2 have that or not... Anyways, it was just darn cool playing MGS2 in Dolby Digital :D As for the Xbox... you can supposedly rip audio cd's onto it's hard drive. That would be kinda cool to have...

Matt Reiland 25-06-2002 17:30

Yep XBOX has optical audio out (When you buy the SVideo or Hidef pack) and you can rip CD's to the HD to play instead of the music in games which is kinda cool

Rob Colatutto 25-06-2002 17:46

the dvd function on ps2's crashes quite frequently, its rather funny to be watching american pie and see a complete screen dump because the ps2 crashed, or to be watching miss congieniality and see the video get 5 seconds ahead of the sound file....

Gamecube all the way! Gotta WAVEBIRD controller! WO-HO!
As for the PS2, the DVD feature does crash a lot, and somewhere around 20% of all PS2's can scratch games, cd's, and DVD's. You see, it uses magnets to hold the cd in place to read the info on the bottom. With such high speeds, the CD's and DVD's can move around and get scratched. Sony denies it, but Gamepro says it's a very large problem.

BTW, X-Box has the least future of all the counsuls, trust me.

i couldn't agree with you more, x-box shouldn't even be around, and neither should be microsoft. but thats a different story, and rct2 eh? sounds fun, i love the first one

Ian W. 25-06-2002 19:09

the cool part about RCT II, is that it looks like you can have your entrence and exit in two different station blocks (think Space Mountain). this was something that i've always wanted to do, but couldn't do it properly in RCT I. one the other hand, i just found my RCT I and Loopy Landscape CDs, and i still have most of my old save game files :p. I'm VERY happy with that ;). Now, i just have to wait until Q4 of 2002. Never have i wanted the summer to go by fast, until now :D.

but, i have something to tide me over. today, i think the most enforced rule in my house has been dropped. today, i went to price club and got a PS2, a second control, memory pack (only 8 MB, so small!) and a pretty good game for $20 bucks. so, i have that to tide me over for the summer, just hope that Chris Sawyer works faster than he plans and gets RCT II out earlier than planned :D.

Rob Colatutto 25-06-2002 19:22

i got my Ragnarok Online beta 2 comming soon....that will keep me busy for the summer, pc game of course

My girlfriend works at a video store, and quite a few people bring back DVDs seriously scratched after playing in a PS2...especially if it's being run vertically...

I really don't see the point of running a PS 2 vertically ??? what's the point.. maybe to save space, but that's the only reason I can think of.

Yeah, Roller Coaster Tycoon II is going to be great. I can't wait for Warcraft III... but really, I'm hoping Blizzard Entertainment will start on a Starcraft II... that would be my dream in life! lol, but really I think Blizzard might go towards creating a new game after the whole Warcraft III and The World of Warcraft thing.

I agree that Xbox will have no future, in the future :D

The Sims is one of the funnest games I've ever owned for PC, and it's going to go online soon which'll be the greatest!! - Ryan

The PS2 has compatibility issues with many DVDs and yes the Xbox is basically a PC...when you play the demo in the store and you get a BSOD that talks about a Direct-X error....well thats something i'd rather not want to own..and PC is great except when your game doesnt work with XP (Darn you microsoft) or it has some error with a graphics card and then you have a useless game so that leaves Gamecube!

Ashley Weed 26-06-2002 08:50

Would anyone happen to know of one of these big chain stores (or a store known nation wide) that would take Nintendo and a Playstation as a trade in for a PS2?

It Depends on what Nintendo system you're talking about here. If it's a gamecube, you might be able to get a PS2 out of that and a playstation if you trade it into a place like Funcoland or Electronics Boutique, but if it's an N64, good luck on that one. I doubt any store would trade a PS2 for a N64 and a PS.... just because they're greedy store ppl! - Ryan

ive never had a compatibility issue with a dvd on ps2

Dave Hurt 26-06-2002 10:26

Bah, Xbox will be around for a while. Just wait a little bit for them to get established. Anyways, with Nintendo cutting back on hardware development, that's going to leave just Microsoft and Sony to release new systems.

As for the PS2 dvd system problems... I've never had a problem with mine. Probalby most of the older systems were the ones with problems... I got mine a couple months ago and never had anything go wrong with it.

October 1, baby, yeah! RCT II has some interesting new features, and my favorite of all is working block systems on the coasters. That'll rock like a crocodile.

Screenshots of RCT II

There's so much new goodness. Arrow 4D's, Zero cars on Arrow's Multilooper trains, Intamin tri-rail, Intamin Hyper trains, new scenery object, Intamin inverted coasters, Giavanola Hypers, steps, better ride saving capacity, Schwarzkopf Speed Racer cars, better banking options on coasters, scenario editor, Premier LIM coasters. . . *drool*

For now, though No Limits will have to hold me over. :)

Oh, yeah, and the real thing, too.

thats a nice little way of looking at it....except for the fact that there will never be a next generation of game consols. they have become an out dated relic of the past.....computer gaming is much better graphics, better devolpers, better games, and better speed and hardware support. and now with tv-out on just about every video card, you can play the games on your couch and watch on the tv, like i do. and already computers have surpassed consol graphics and capabilities with the 128mb ati radeon and geforce 4, so just wait till q1 next year when the 256mb cards come out, give the final blow to weak game systems

These video cards alone cost more than any of the 3 console games listed. Some are over $300 alone. Not everyone can afford the $2000 computer that goes with them either. Until a powerhouse computer comes down to under $300, ohhh wait thats the XBOX. Sold at a loss to Microsoft to get volume to be made back up on software. Most computer manufacturers won't sell hardware at a loss unless they know it can be made up somewhere else.

Rob Colatutto 26-06-2002 13:39

you mean the XBOX that has sold 1/4 of what Dreamcast sold at this far after its release? ...yes a mircosoft gaming consol, we have all seen how good microsofts games are

Dave Hurt 26-06-2002 15:27

Eh, I don't think consoles will ever completly go away. Anyways, computer have always been better IMO. As things get more cost conservative, I think games will lean more twords computer consoles, like the xbox, then full computers. Just think about the amount of time saved by programming a game for a console vs programming it for pc. With a console, you know exactly what your hard ware is. You only have to write it for one system. With PC games, you have to spend alot of extra time writing to take account for different systems.

Michael, i think you know toooo much about roller coasters.... :D anyways, i can't wait till october 1st. too far away. someone tell chris sawyer to release RCT II now. :p from all the screen shots i see, it looks done! what's holding them up? oh well, hopefully summer will pass just as fast as the school year did.

If the console gaming trend was based solely on graphics quality and other capabilities, then this may be the case. However, there will always be the group who do not want to spend the extra for a full blown computer system, or do not want to deal with the added complexity, and in these homes is where the game consoles will find their place...

Joe Matt 26-06-2002 19:38

The report on TechTV last night said that at the rate the X-Box is going, they will LOSE OVER 2 BILLION DOLLARS!! They loose around 150 per X-Box.

If u do have a store like Electronics Boutique go ahead an take your PS or N64 there and trade it in towards credit; that's how i got my GameCube last week...

I got $100 for an N64, 1 controller, and 2 games...plus i had 8 xtra games and got between $10-$25 for each game, dont bother taking in any xtra controllers, the guy checked and they had 0 trade in value...also those stores are great for trading in old computer games, i took in 3 games and got another $60 towards the purchase of GameCube goodies :D

This is actually part of the sales plan and it is common for Console hardware to break even or sell at a loss. I doub't Sony makes any money on PS2 hardware either, ditto for Nintendo. The real money is in software titles at $50 each. They are proprietary for each machine so you always know where the software is coming from. Internet Explorer is free and there are people still developing it at Microsoft.

Ashley Weed 27-06-2002 07:53

Is there any chance of getting any credit towards a PS2 for a NES from the early 90's, and around 10 games for it?

Matt Reiland 27-06-2002 08:04

Try E Bay, it won't be much credit though

Yeah Ebay would be the way to go on that one since Funcoland doesn't give much for NES stuff, and I don't think Electronics Boutique will even accept them, but I'm not sure.

Yeah, many consuls don't break even. The problem is that X-Box is not getting many licences, the thing they make money back from.

Plus, 2 bill is a lot to loose.

What about Halo

Can PS2 or Gamecube link for mulitplayer?
X-Box can. ^_^
Upto four can be linked for Halo for 16 player goodness. We have yet to get 4 togeter, but playing with 3 boxes, 12 people in 3 different rooms on a smallish map with rockets only, solo....:D
Or playing team CTF...its a lot of fun.
Even better when you are all playing in the same room, and all mostly talking at the same time to team members....it gets rather amusing the crosstalk...:)

The only other console game I play is DDR. Which r0x0rs just fine on PS1.

PS2 can use firewire cable to link up to i think 6 PS2's together. i'm not sure what games support this, (cause i just got a PS2). it also has two USB ports, but why, i do not know.

oreocookeee 30-06-2002 21:55

i've saved up enough money from mowing the lawn to buy myself a new game system, but i still cant figure out which to get. all your comments on this thread have only confused me even more.

personally, i think that every system has its ups and downs:

x-box, which is basically a computer made for video games definetly has the best graphics and runs faster and smoother than all the rest, but microsoft has very little experice in making games. although i loved playing halo at my friends house, i still think that overall, the games for x-box arent nearly as good as the games for the other systems.

when it comes to hardware, i think that playstation 2 and game cube are pretty equal, but the games for game cube are made to target a younger market than what i am looking for. in my personal opinion, play station 2 has the best games out of all the systems.

FotoPlasma 30-06-2002 23:19

At this point, I've become sick of most games...
The only game I'll play anymore is GTA3, as long as I have friends over. It's a very social game...

oreocookeee 02-07-2002 11:44

i think the best idea for gaming is hooking your computer up to a big screen tv and using a installing a game controller

Aaron Lussier 02-07-2002 12:26

By the way

If I haven't all ready said it I like Playstation 2 better becasue my Dad got me one for X-mas also I've never really used any of the others, I have nothing to Gague it aganist

gniticxe 03-07-2002 22:42

I've been with PCs for....forever. I love building them and modding the case, it just gives a sense of personalization. As for games, S-Video out and an emu (google it) let me play any game on tv with my comp. Sure it more expensive, but its not made just for gaming either.
