See My Vest...

I have collected quite a bit from my first year of being in FIRST. I finally was able to make a little site showing off what I got from all the great teams I met during competition. I was able to collect many buttons from teams as well as many other memorabilia. Here you can see all I have collected. I also have a link in my signature to the site.
If you notice something you have from your team that I don't have and would like to help me make the spirit of FIRST grow, contact me and we can see what we can do.
Next year I will be more organized when I go around to meet all the other teams while scouting and collecting.

Ian W. 02-07-2002 23:47

wow, i never knew you had that many buttons...

next year we need to get you a bigger vest i think :p

Wetzel 03-07-2002 01:08

That website was a good idea...

Why didn't I think of that!

srawls 03-07-2002 07:11

Wow, and I thought you were going to break out into a simpsons song ...

"See my vest, see my vest
Made from real guerilla chest ..."

Stephen

Rob Ribaudo 03-07-2002 16:31

Feel this sweater, there's no better,Than authentic Irish setter.

Sorry, but I had to add the next line to that song.

Anyway, anyone have anything from their team that I don't have, I would like to see if I could add more to it even if the competitions are over this year for me. As I said before I will make sure I stop by every team next year so I don't miss anything. Then I won't have to do this. I am just asking this to see if anyone wants would actually do this.

jon 03-07-2002 17:03

The site was CD'ed!! Get a better host. Geocities is for loooooooosers.

Rob Ribaudo 03-07-2002 18:29

Does anyone know of a good free host for a small 3 page website then? This is the best I can do for now. Sorry for any trouble caused by it.

Ian W. 03-07-2002 19:59

if you have cable, you can host it yourself. you just need to find a http server. try looking online somewhere, but i wouldn't know where to look.

tjrage_25 03-07-2002 21:43

Try Tripod.com

Try Tripod.com, we used to host our team site from there but they reduced the webspace to 20mb, but for a 3 page site it's more than enough. :)

If you decide to host from home, check out the legal stuff from your ISP before hand, for some it's illegal.

Ian W. 03-07-2002 22:39

true, although if you only have a three page site that people won't be going to every single day, it should be ok. something like chief delphi, well, they'd notice the traffic rather quickly. but i do know several people who have a small webpage that they run from home. just as long as you keep the traffic low, it's ok.

David Kelly 04-07-2002 01:06

you remind me of someone...

Eddie McD perhaps. haven't heard from him i a while. he had a vest very similar to yours

Andrew Rudolph 06-07-2002 00:33

Last year we had a big kid who was like 6'5" 250lbs who covered his entire shirt and front of his pants in buttons when he was all done he had 30 lbs of buttons!!!

It looks like you dont have a RACE flag or RACE car kazoo. too bad we are tapped out from our demos:(

DanLevin247 09-07-2002 23:00

Hmm. That is a nice vest. Only one problem with it though. MY TEAM'S BUTTONS AREN'T ON THERE!

You would not be able to get any more of your teams buttons by any chance would you...

Also does anyone know how many buttons Eddie McD had collected, or better yet a picture of him/his vest.

Ashley Weed 10-07-2002 16:03

I think you need a Chuck button, and perhaps after speaking with the rest of the group (the group being the freaks and not the enthusiasts, because the enthusiasts don't stay the night) hehehe:rolleyes: I may be able to talk to the rest of the overnight group and get ahold of one of our elite buttons, there were only around 15 ever made, I'll see if I can locate one!

Rob Ribaudo 10-07-2002 21:01

That would be very nice weedie if you could do that. I some buttons left from my team if you would want to trade for yours.

Ashley Weed 10-07-2002 21:03

By any chance would you be attending any post-season competitions?

Ian W. 10-07-2002 21:15

unfortunately, i don't think 810 is going to any off-season competitions. although, that's only according to my information, so i could be wrong (kinda doubt it, seeing as i'm co-captain :p). i'm trying to get the team to do some things on long island, but that doesn't help rob out much. well, i do have the robot in my garage, so rob can always borrow it and ride out to PA ;).

Ashley Weed 10-07-2002 21:18

Hehehe, sounds like me, I get boared and walk to my garage to play with the robot! There is always the good old U.S. Postal Service.

Ian W. 10-07-2002 21:21

yeah, but that's boring :D riding a robot down the LIE is bound to be a lot more fun. and imagine all the crazy looks you'd get from people! lol, and you though adam sandler and his lawn mower were a strange site on the roads... :p

Katie_269 10-07-2002 21:34

Hmmm...It does not look like you have any of my team's button's either. How sad :( .

Very true, it would deffinately be a sight to see! The only close experience I had was at a car wash my team had at a Wal-Mart, and when cars would turn into the Wal-Mart, the robot started to follow them!

Ian W. 10-07-2002 21:58

hmm, i wonder if you could just tow the cars back to the car wash, and not let go until they pay... now that would be a good robot :D

Ashley Weed 10-07-2002 22:02

That sounds like fun. Someone should attempt that at sometime. We tried to drive out at stop in front of cars, however our advisors noticed really fast when there was a line of cars backed up into the street and we got yelled at.:(

Rob Ribaudo 11-07-2002 07:29

I think that I have to be a little more careful about what I put here in Chit-Chat
Anyways, I think that just using snail-mail would work fine if anyone would want to do that. I still have a few of my teams buttons left and I can send those.
Next year I will do a much better job with collecting while I'm doing scouting for my team, so I won't ask for buttons over CD. This was my team and my's first year with FIRST so I was just trying to stay with my team to help them and just get a look at all over the other robots. Oh-well, maybe this would could if any wants to try this.
And Ian, how long does the battery last on the robot, I might have to recharge it a few times if I drive the robot to PA. :D

DanLevin247 13-07-2002 23:14

We've got some left. I think they currently reside in our teacher's garage. I'll see if I can track one down for you.

Looking for the cheapest way to host a small site? Get an old 486 and put a nice version of Slackware on it :) 16 megs of ram and that processor will be fine to run apache. This works assuming you have an always-on connection. For a one-time fee of around 100-300 dollars, you can have a permanent site :) That is what I do. Linux rules all.

Also, you should collect T-Shirts. Many teams are willing to trade shirts. One of our leaders manages to get quite a few. I believe he got well over a dozen at the Mid-Atlantic Regional and Nationals. Soon, those will be hanging on the rafters of the shop along with the team shirts of the years before.

Here is a small collection of what Ed had, he was insane with all of those buttons, he had a vest that was more like a cape.

Anyways Ed wasn't on our team this year nor school for that matter, because of a very difficult situation with his family. I heard rummors why, but I really don't know what happend to him.
