Family members

Just wondering if anyone had/has a brother or sister who was/is on the same team as you were???

My brother will be on 871 in three years, and my dad works with my team,(in the past he worked with DeerPark) and my Uncle Paul he inspected the robots at the Long Island regional(he also worked with Deer PArk)...

Ian W. 06-07-2002 10:14

my brother might join the team next year (he's going into 9th, i'll be in 11th). he's concerned that track will get in the way, but plenty of people have done both robotics and track. i think he's just trying to say he's 'too cool' for robotics :p. oh well, when i'm in sunny florida running through disney world, and he's sitting in math, i'll be the 'cool kid' :D.

Aaron Lussier 06-07-2002 11:14

My sister is going to be on the same team as me next year

Katie Reynolds 06-07-2002 11:53

Oh boy. Our team is a whole bunch of families pretty much - lol! So far we've had 2 sisters and a brother, one brother and one sister, three sisters (and soon a brother), two brothers, two brothers, a brother and sister, then in 2 years we'll have myself and my brother, my friend and her brother and the brother of the two sisters on the team!! So what's that - eight families with at least two kids on the team (and as many as four!?) :D :D

We are family.....
I've got all my family with me.

We had twins on our team...took me a while to be able to tell them apart though. Someones advice to me: look at the shoes. That's the one thing that generally doesn't change. ::shrugs:: I was able to figure it out eventually. Hehe.

When I was on 263, we had twins there too. But they were pretty easy to tell apart after time as well.

Hmmm... There was one sibling rivalry my first year on the team ... that wasn't cool. The two sisters/one brother family - the brother is in my grade so I kinda knew him... the oldest sister and younger one fought a lot so the younger sister didn't join the team til this year after the older one left! (Did you follow that alright?) But it's all good now :)

Joe Ross 06-07-2002 15:17

umm, lemme see

My mom started the same year I did ('97)
My Dad and Sister started the year after
My Brother started this year

Now I'm on a different team, and my sister will be on another different team next year, and my mom is retiring from first.

Rob Ribaudo 06-07-2002 17:03

My Mom made alot of snacks that I brought to my team during the building period. She made rainbow cookies most of the time. Everyone always liked what my Mom made, and she will continue to do that for the team. She went to the SPBLI Long island regional and the National Regional in Florida.
My brother is not part of my team, but he helped out at a few meetings during the building period. He helped paint our crate for the robot and did a little computer work. He is a year out of high school right now and will probally do the same next year. He went to the New York City Regional with the team.

on my team lets see... my brother was on the team so many years ago but then my sis joined her freshman year and then I joined her junior year (my freshman year)and in about 3 years my younger sis will be joining then of course my parents help out with the team then of course my tem has at least two other sets of siblings on the team now (more will be joining next year) but lots of past membors have younger siblings on the team now

45-Family

Our team seems to have a lot of family in it...especially for this upcoming year...I can atleast think of 8 groups of family members...probably even missing some..:D

mtaman02 06-07-2002 23:09

thats one way of telling twins apart.

D.J. Fluck 07-07-2002 01:24

my brother is comming to high school and I scared him away from the team and told him that being on the team would probably get him cut from his prized wrestling team...which is probably true....so it wasnt hard to scare him away...and same with the youngest brother...

Andrew Rudolph 07-07-2002 01:39

My parents help both us and team 168. My brother(168) and I(212) are on separate teams. and when i was a Freshy he was a senior so here is the question: How many of you hae siblings on OTHER teams and arent in college?

FotoPlasma 07-07-2002 06:49

My brother Bill and I (Jim) are on the same team.
That is tall.

Ashley Weed 07-07-2002 18:38

My team has been corrupted by two of us plus my dad and two more await one to begin in 2003-2004 and the other to begin in 2014-2015.

Ian W. 07-07-2002 22:01

Christina-

about storm and dustin, storm always had the blue/white belt, and dustin always had the red belt. and i think storm was more carefree and goofing off, whereas dustin was slightly more serious (yes, that is possible for him to be serious :D).

Stephanie 07-07-2002 22:51

this year, we didn't have any sibling pairs, but my little sister is considering joining next year (help me! i can just imagine the rivalry: "can you pass me that screwdriver?" "no! i'm using it!"...) and two sisters will be joining at the same time. i think we might have more siblings on the way...

does it count if you consider all your team mates your "robo-bros" and "robo-sisses" ? :p

Katie_269 08-07-2002 12:21

Family on the team

Well i have/had a brother on the team. I am 17 and a senior in high school, and my brother is 19 and a sophomore in college. My brother started in FIRST when he was a sophomore in high school. When he was a junior he became the operator of the arm of our robot, and then when he was a senior he got to drive. I could have started in FIRST when i was a freshman, but i did not want to invade my brother's space, because this was something that was very important to him. He found out he wanted to be a mechanical enginner because of this. So after he graduated i decided to join, but of course my brother loved it so much he had to come back and help, which was really cool. Right now he is going to UW Platteville for Mechanical Engineering. I am sure he will come back and help next year. It will be a blast.

my brother is going to be on the team next year. i am making him. though it isnt that hard since he already knows he wants to be an engineer. he is coming this year to check everything out. i am really excited because it will be fun to teach my bro some stuff. there r 3 boys my bros age that will be joining the team soon. and one more family of 2 bros i think kt may have left off her list. atleast we hope. we r not sure the older of the two will be joining us next year. but anyway lots of family involvement and we have a good time with it.

ogre and his sister were on 173 this year

JTH 11-01-2003 19:58

I'm an engineer on team 440 (Ford/McNaughton-McKay/Redford HS) and my brother is an engineer on team 548 (Bosch/Northville HS). I tried to recruit him to help my team last year, but he decided to help his company instead. I was happy to beat his team in our match at Great Lakes Regional last year.

I've been trying to convince my brother, a teacher at Centerline HS, to start his own team, also.

Haha...If only they were real...real family. :P

My sister was too cool to join. Then she graduated. (She goes back to college tomorrow...yaaay! Computer shall be all mine! muah!)

David Kelly 11-01-2003 20:28

Every member of my family has/ has had a part on the team. My brother was on the team the first year. my dad has helped with the construction ever since halfway the first year. this is my sisters second year on the team. my mom serves on our parent comittee, the Cyber Blue Parent Crew. i am now in my 5th year on the team. i serve as the teams head webmaster and a student mentor. my cat koko has even had a part on the team, she sponsored $50 last year. :D and this year, my uncle is now our teams programmer/ elctrician.

Team238-aholic 11-01-2003 21:46

Well lets see...I started in 96 (my frosh year of high school....), when I was a senior, both of my brothers were on the team (one was a soph, one was a frosh)....so there were 3 of us crazy kids...

Then my friend Jen, same age as me, when she was a senior, her freshman sister was on the team...now her sister is a senior, and her freshman brother is on the team...

I think there are a few others too....

purpledaisy 11-01-2003 22:59

neither of my sisters is on my team, nor have they ever been on any team. my dad is MC for ramp riot ([shameless plug] our EXCELLENT off-season competition held every fall for the past 3 years [/end shameless plug]), my mom has been chauffeur for the team a few times. they tend to stay out of it, though, as my mom is not technically minded, and my dad... well lets just say i dislike greatly the dad that invades the team and pushes legitimate members from the jobs they are doing to either do it himself or give it to his son. my dad has enough sense to realize i don't want him on the team with me. not that i don't like him, just that it would not be good for us to be in close quarters in high pressure situations, as he doesn't do the not-flip-when-stressed thing well.
ok, enough of my babbling/ranting

If my school still has a team 5 years from now, my little brother will be on it (well he had better be on it...)

KaeleyAnne 12-01-2003 18:01

My sister was a senior on the team the first year our school had a team ('96), and I'm a senior on the team now and my dad is one of the engineers on the team - he joined when I joined in my freshman year.

Re: Family members

My first year of high school robotics (freshman year) i was on the same team as my sister even on the same crew (build). She was a senior so this year will be my first year of high school robotics with out a sibling but it will also be my last. Next year my brother will be on the team so once again i will be with a sibling. Only one year with out a family member on robotics with me. it is kind of weird but i think robotics brings sisters and brothers closer. well at least it did bring my sister and i closer. :D :( :)

Re: Family members

Season 2001 my stepson was on it. Husband helped a little.

2002 husband and junior daughter joined. She ended up working at machine shop on robot, co-driving at competitions, stepson helped with programming, freshman daughter had taken jr college welding over the summer.

2003 now senior daughter captain, husband and I on team, stepson programming, freshman daughter participating.

2004 now sophomore daughter captain, husband and I on team, 12yo stepdaughter took summer robotics, and participates as able since she lives 5 hrs away.

2005 11yo stepgrandaughter will be taking summer robotics camp.

Re: Family members

On 226 we had two families- 1) mom and dad were engineers and both kids were on build and 2) dad helped with chairmans stuff, mom did management stuff, and daughter was president of the club. This year, one of last years senior is going back as a mentor and his sister is a sophomore, and he has two siblings in 8th grade hes trying to get to join next year. And on 1313 we have two brothers. I feel like I'm forgetting some too.

While my brother and I may never be on the same team, we're still working together: Andrew is a freshman in high school, a new member of team 71, mentoring his own Lego League team (before he's ever witnessed his first FIRST season) and is building a mini-segway out of spare parts.

I'm glad I'm involved in this, if only to have introduced him to something this great.
