roboRIO java installer problems

Imaged a new roboRIO, went to use the roboRIO java installer as I did last week, and it wouldn't launch. Tried running as admin, tried restarting computer, disconnected roboRIO, but the program just wouldn't start. Windows cursor showed loading for a half a second, but that was it.

Well, I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the 2015 FRC update and the labview CD, to no avail. Went on to uninstall the roboRIO java installer... But now I can't get it back.

Went through eclipse, reinstalled the robot java programming plugins, the roboRIO java installer is still not there.

I'm lost. does anyone have a link to download the roboRIO java installer, or some other solution? Thanks ^^

Is Java 8 installed?

Re: roboRIO java installer problems

I realized on the car ride home from robotics (and this post) that java 8 wasn't installed.

I installed it near the end of the night because eclipse wasn't working all of a sudden (really not sure what happened to java 8 overall).

But by that time I had already, in a last-ditch effort, uninstalled the java installation tool, and was going to reinstall it- and that brings us to the current situation, where I don't know how to get the java installation tool back.

Tried that as well, uninstalled and reinstalled the plugins from inside eclipse, but still no dice.

Could someone perhaps host a copy of the Java Installer (and the other contents of the wpilib file) or e-mail me the program? If that doesn't anger the mighty gods of the National Instruments legal team, that is.

I don't think the NI lawyers have much to say about your Eclipse files. They generally try to make sure that legally binding agreements to other companies and entities are followed, and to allow FIRST teams get free stuff while still encouraging paying customers to pay. They aren't such bad guys once you know them.

Oracle is the entity who may have more to say about the Java licensing.

You can find an offline version of the plugins here. To get to the actual tools, you need to extract the zip, and then in the plugins folder extract the core jar, and then you will find the tools zip inside of the resources folder there. Thats where you can find the java installer.

I upgraded to Windows 10, the OS deleted my Windows.old folder which contained all of the NI FRC stuff. I had to manually delete the registry entries for NI software to uninstall everything as the regular Uninstall from Programs & Features in Windows Control Panel would not work.

I tried RE-installing the 2015 FRC Update, LabView, Driver Station, etc. It FAILED. i don't know what the story will be with the 2016 update, but 2015 did NOT work on Windows 10.

My advice is to install ONLY for Win 7 or 8.1 64 bit. Anyone else having similar problems?

It sounds like you tried to keep your programs you had installed when you upgraded. I never trust this process, and I would recommend trying a clean install.
