FIRST article in YM magazine

OK, I went to the drug store the other day and I noticed that the August issue of YM Magazing was already out. Now this made me very excited, because I and a few other girls on Buzz were interviewed for an article about FIRST that will appear in the September issue of YM. Now, I don't know how the article will turn out, hopefully it'll be accurate and interesting; but I felt that I should let all of you who are interested know to go check out YM September. Yea, this is a good thing, it'll expose a lot more teen girls to FIRST.

And guys... if you really want to read it.... don't make your best girl friend buy it for you... cashiers won't care if your buying girly magazines. :)

Do you know when the magazine may hit the stands? Possibly early August?

Erin Rapacki 16-07-2002 18:24

That's my guess, early-mid August. Those magazines like to come out extremely early.

I would love to get ahold of one of them! If you feel like helping me seddle my mind some, please post a reminder when it is closer to its release date. Thanks!

I'll let you guys know when my subscription gets here. Wow, theres a bear on the tele. I like bears. Wow, he talks too.

MBiddy 17-07-2002 19:18

I don't know who YM is written for, since they talk about make up and boys but are filled with inappropriate pictures of women not wearing much clothing. Weird.

Ryan Dognaux 17-07-2002 21:56

Bear?

Is it Snuggle?!?!

jon 18-07-2002 11:10

Nope. It was the Bear in the Big Blue House, on that Tic Tac Toe show!

robomama 18-07-2002 17:47

Rob Colatutto 12-08-2002 11:25

my friend is scanning me a copy of the page today or tomorrow at work, i'll post it here when i get the copy. the magazine shipped last week to subscriptions

Ashley Weed 12-08-2002 13:31

I finally found the magazine! It's a short article, but a good step in the direction of getting FIRST recognized. I posted a pic, it's poor quality because it is so large. Go pick up the magazine!

Scorpion515 12-08-2002 13:35

yay! i got the magazine. but why is the article all the way in the back? are we not important enough? o well.

congrads to the girls who got interviewed. that's really cool!:)

evulish 12-08-2002 14:40

Uhm...weedie sent me the 4.8 meg pic. It's temporarily located at: http://evulish.linux-site.net/jasci/ym.jpg

It will probably be online for the next 2 hours. Get it quickly :) (My upstream is only 120 kbps so you won't be getting it _too_ quickly)

(Man do I need a stable hosting solution...only one more year untill I'm at college on a nice college connection!)

Jon K. 12-08-2002 14:48

thanks

edit*

it may take 2 hours to load

Erin Rapacki 12-08-2002 15:01

Wow,

I can't believe the explosion of posts today, I thought this thread was dead. Anywho... I picked up the issue last Sunday, Aug 4th, I was so excited, made copies... showed it to everyone... and so on. One thing is funny though, I spoke with the writer of that article for over half and hour, wrote her three pages of text to answer her questions, and during one of those emails my boyfriend was sitting next to me so I decided to write a sentence about him to make him happy (you know, one of those 'awww, she loves me' kinda things), and that's the one thing she puts in about me. :p Well, to give you an idea of when we were interviewed... my boyfriend and have been going out for over a year now. The article is cool and thanks for your compliments.

heh...I can't believe the explosion of my DSL modem :) (Not really) Lots of people wanting that image...

Rob Ribaudo 12-08-2002 15:48

That is a great article to get the idea of FIRST out to other people. Everyone who did this artile did a good job. Why does there have to an article about Battle Bots at the bottom though?

For those of you who do not want to have to get such a large copy of the article you can see here, it only takes a few seconds to come up. This is a smaller sized copy of the article I did in photoshop after my computer ran out of memory while I was trying to read the article, have Chief Delphi on, and have AIM on. :) Please don't put such large pictures on here agian, my computer does not like pictures that big.

evulish 12-08-2002 15:53

Ha...I warned you. That's why no computer should be without at LEAST 256 megs of RAM :) It took 45 megs of ram to open that in the Gimp. I actually had to use some of my swap space! (384 megs of ram is hard for me to fill up!)

weedie's scan is the grandma-sized version :) Not everything has to be scanned at 1200dpi :-D

I don't scale photos down. Uncompressed files rule! Heh...half a gig of robotics pictures :) all 1280x1024 and up. :)

DanL 13-08-2002 16:16

hmm, you always could have photoshopped it to black-and-white and used high jpg compression... quality isn't the goal here, seeing the text (while making sure your compie doesn't blow up in the process) is

Size of the picture isn't the problem....your upstream and everyone trying to get it is the problem.

I opened it in Cannon ZoomBrowser EX...Paintshop wouldn't open it. "File to large. Too many bytes." hee
Anywho, 4.8MB downloaded in 9min 41 sec at 8.46 KBs.

If you had GIMP you could open it :P

I suppose PS could own GIMP since Adobe is a multi-million dollar company. I'd sell out for a few mil :D
