Whats your sleep pattern?

So, who is awake all the time, or close to it?

I tend to wake up 11-noonish, and goto bed sometime between 4 and 7am.

Kristina 19-07-2002 12:48

during the build period and compeittion time it seemed like i was awake all the time.

let's see, at the beginning of summer, i would go to bed at around 2-ish and wake up at 10. now that i've come back from my europe trip, i go to bed at like 9pm and wake up at 5am...yeah it really sucks, hopefully I'll go back to my old pattern soon.

evulish 19-07-2002 13:21

During the last few days of building, I think weedie and I were up till around 6am then I don't remember the waking time :)

For summer, I usually go to bed either after Star Trek is over (midnight) or around 2am. I'm usually up around 10-12.

For school...Bed at 10pm, up at 7am.

Between those hours, I don't really sleep.

Trashed20 19-07-2002 13:23

i go to bed at 10 and wake up at 5 :( to go to work at the university of michigan hospital pathology data systems as a computer technician. wow, thats a long title. then on the weeksend i wake up around 9 and go to work at holiday market (a supermarket thing). 56 hour weeks suck!

FotoPlasma 19-07-2002 13:50

During the build period (during school), I get to sleep around 1-2am, and get up at 8am.

The summer, however, ain't that predictable. I'd have to say sleep between 1-6am, and get up from 10-1pm...

This is actually the first day in a while that I've been up before 10:45, but it's not the only day this summer...

Ian W. 19-07-2002 14:13

i'm usually asleep by 1 or so, even on weekends, and on weekdays, up by 7 for my internship at BNL. weekends, i can sleep until about 8:30 or 9. i'm lucky, cause i don't need a whole lot of sleep. one time, during the build season, i was up till 4am (having been in the school for about 20 hours straight now). the next morning, i woke up rather early (like 8 or 9 i think), and was waiting for someone to call sayin that the school was opened again (one teacher had the key, and he slept way too late). the build season is still fun though, even if you can't open your eyes...

Rob Ribaudo 19-07-2002 14:58

I always try to go to bed around 9:00 PM to 10 PM and then I will usally wake up anytime between 5:00 AM to 7:00 AM, depending if I have school or not.
During the building season I went to sleep around midnight when there was not school the next day.
If I stay up too late then I can't concentrate on what I am doing and I will start to make mistakes. Reason why I did most of my work right after school during the building season.

MissInformation 19-07-2002 15:12

Hmmm... I wouldn't say I'm an insomniac, but I would say it's borderline. I can usually average about 5 hours of sleep a night, but too many nights it's less. Sleep issues, you've got to love them!

Two school years ago, I was forced to take a 0 period class. I had to get up at around 5am every day, and I was typically getting to sleep between 1 and 2am...

I wasn't a really happy student, as many of my teachers that year can agree with.

Ian W. 19-07-2002 15:55

about halfway through the school year is when i start to become somewhat like an insomniac. partially due to FIRST (but that's because i love playing and building robots ;)) and partially because that seems to be the time of year where all of my classes start going crazy. that combo makes for little sleep, lots of mad teachers, and one angry me :D. i mean, why should i work at something that will get me no where, and is pure torture to me (a class like english fulfills those requeirments, mostly cause i hate writing/vocab/spelling/etc.) when i can go and use skills that i want to learn and perfect, and have a heck of a lot more fun, building a robot?

i'll shut up before i start rambling again....

Joel J 19-07-2002 16:09

During the school year (with or without FIRST) I usually go to bed between the hours of 11pm and 12[am/pm?]. I am kicked, pinched, shaken, and etc by my sister until I wake up for school (around 6am'ish). I think I am doing well with the hours now wouldn't you say? During the summer, I fall asleep around 6am and wake up around 4pm. All I can say about that is I need a job...

Michael Murphy 19-07-2002 17:12

Here goes...

Mon-Fri- Usually from about 3-4 am to about noon, then I stay up all Friday night (beats getting up at quarter of five for work) sleep saturday afternoon, stay up all saturday night (same reason as above), sleep sometime sunday.

Of course, if the mood takes me, I blow that off and stay up for like two-three days straight. For some reason I can't go to sleep before midnight anyway.

fast frank 19-07-2002 17:36

for school, i usually go to sleep around 1 and wake up at 6

for summer, i usually go to sleep around 4 and wake up at 11

yea, i usually am tired, so during the non-first season its around 9-9:30am until 5:30am. and during hte first season its 2am until 5:30 am

Jon K. 19-07-2002 20:30

for school i am usually in bed by midnight and up by 6'ish and during the summer 1-2am and wake up about 7:30-8 am

Aaron Lussier 19-07-2002 20:35

sleep habits

During school non-build period:

Wake up at 6:00 go to bed at around 10:00

During school build period:

Wake up at 6:00 go to school then stay at FIRST till two or three in the morning only to wake up at six again

Summer:

Wake up at 2:00 PM go to bed by 2:00 AM:D

rbayer 19-07-2002 21:35

During the normal school year (non-build time), I go to bed around 3am and wake up around 6:30. On the weekends, it's more like 4am to noon. During the end of the build session, there were times when I just didn't sleep (power tools are fun after being awake for 42 hours!). One of our build sessions lasted 36 hours, but only three of us (two students, including me, and an engineer) made it for the entire time.

Anyway, during the summer, I've been going to bed around 4 and waking up at 10-11.

As many have heard me say, "sleep is for the weak." It just cuts down on programming time.

Stephanie 20-07-2002 01:55

eh, i'm rather unpredictable. during the school year, it's not unusual for me to go to bed around 1 or 2 am, and wake up at 6:30 am. on weekends, i've been up as uhm...early...as 5 am (and had to wake up at 7, on mother's day!). during summer, i go to bed anytime between 11 and 3, and wake up anywhere between 6:30 and noon.

Ian W. 20-07-2002 07:50

hmm, this is most odd. i went to bed close to 2 last night (or was it this morning?) only to wake up to my radio (who's lifespan is ever shrinking) at 7 am, cause i'm going to the beach today. the strangest part is, i feel like i got 8 or 9 hours of sleep, and i think i slept like a rock.

hmm, think it's possible to sell sleep in pill form? not sleeping pills, or caffine pills, but something that would like, send chemicals through your body saying that you were all refreshed? how great would that be during the build season?

"we're so screwed, only 4 days left till shipping, and the whole robot needs to be completely rebuilt!"

"have no fear! just take one of these pills every 8 hours, and you'll feel as refreshed as after a 8 hour snooze!"

yep, i'm going insane again, and it's only 8 in the morning...

Melissa Nute 20-07-2002 09:31

I try to go to bed between 10 and midnight on weekdays since I wake up at 6 in the morning...

On the weekends I don't really have a set pattern...I go to bed when I feel like it wake up before noon...

Ian: are you sure you got enough sleep....your ideas are crazy...

Yeah, during the season, before cram time I usually sleep from 11 pm - 6 am. During the cram time, I usually build till 11 pm, then go to school at 8 am, and try to sleep at least 2 hours sometime in there. The big cram weekend our team has (Thur. - Tue.) Thursday till Saturday, we went to bed 3-4 am and got up around 8 am. The last three nights, Saturday, Sunday and Monday, we slept from about 6:30 am- 8am.

During school for years, I usually go to bed around 10 ish and watch TV for awhile until I fall asleep. I usually get up around 7:15 am. However, this year I may be going to a different school, and may have to leave around 7:30 to drive to school.

During the summer, if I don't have to work, I get up at 8 am. If I have to work, sometimes I have to go in around 5 am to start breakfast.

Hey ian, while no one has invented artificial sleep yet, ive been experimenting with a remedy of mine to help out with those all nighters in the middle of the school year. i call it liquid fire. basically, i take three cups worth of freeze dried coffee and mix it with half a cup of water. then i gulp it down like a shot of gin. it usually kicks in in about five minutes and lasts for hours. it's a great help if its two o'clock in the morning and i'm ony half done with my science project.

oreocookeee 21-07-2002 15:03

and it also helped out alot with science olympiads- that stuff is strong enough to wake the dead.

DanLevin247 21-07-2002 21:32

During the summer it's usually asleep by 2am, awake by Noon.

During school it's asleep by Midnight, up by 6am

Jon Lawton 21-07-2002 21:46

I usually sleep somwhere between 12am and 4am and get up somwhere around noon during the summer. During the school year, I usually sleep between 12am and 2am and get up at about 8:30am.

I'm almost always tired... I think I have various problems that contribute to that besides my odd (or not so odd) sleeping habits.

trnt2k3 24-07-2002 06:01

Sometimes I can stay up all night... well 20 hours atleast... thats from 10 am - 7am then i go to sleep and wake up at 10 again and go to sleep at 4am then wake up at 10 am then go to sleep at 10pm... it sorta works like that for three days... kinda complicated....isnt it?

Wetzel 24-07-2002 12:20

I just skip a sleep period when I have to be up before 7am.
That only happens a few times a month.
Yay for 47 hours awake straight around prom. :D
Longer even then Ken. ;)

Wow, what a lot of sleep-depraved, er... deprived people there are out there. My longest awake time was in high school and it was for 56 hours and they had to give me sleeping pills (blah, I hate pills!). In equal extreme, I slept for almost 30 hours once in high school before they realized I am allergic to coedine (pills, again blah!) I did 27 hours not too long ago, without caffeine (caffeine? what's caffeine?).

That sounds painfull/disgusting/bad for you stomach/like a heck of a lot of cafeene. Just drink 20 liters of Mountain Dew/jolt/Everything else which has massive caffine.

Rob Ribaudo 24-07-2002 15:41

For all of you who do not like drinking/eating caffeine I have the perfect way for you to stay awake. Just take a nice hot shower with Caffeinated Soap. The caffeine is absored right through your skin. Robotics people could use it while working on the robot if they don't have time to sleep, but only time to shower...
I somehow think that this will strat something strange in the FIRST Robotics world

Silly Ian, you stay up for more than 2 days by not sleeping.
The way to do it is continue talking to people online or interacting with them in person. There are also sevral times where you will get really tired, and want to sleep, but if you fight that off, you will be good to go for another long while.:D

INSOMNIA

Top this: 100.5 hours awake, no caffeine, no internet.

I would have kept going, but I fell asleep in history class. Of course, I was kind of a head case at the end, what with the hallucinations and voices and all. I ended up sleeping through most of my weekend. Since then, I've only pushed myself past fifty once. After three days you begin to lose your grip on reality, and it's not as much fun as it sounds.

My sleep pattern is horrible. I wake up at 6AM and I fall asleep around midnight. I'm up most of the night looking over things and ideas for the bot and then I'm here on weekends working all day full blow tiring myself out. I'm a programmer for our team although we have two more other than I but they aren't here as much as I am. Jesse was able to make it in yesterday and I really respected his effort. I'm the one having to work mostly on this unfortunately. Mr. Matthias has been a great help to us. Basically to sum this up... I'm sitting here on the laptop with my eyes about to fall out of their sockets (yea i seriously feel like that's gonna happen) and I'm still working on the code. Best of luck to all you teams out there and keep working hard. Hope to see you at the competitions.

Sleep by 2:30-3 AM and wake up at 5:30-6. On weekends sleep comes to me at around 3-4 and I'm up at around 10-12 naturally. After robotics I usually sleep at around 12 and try to be up by 8 on weekends so I don't get into the bad habit of sleeping late and missing classes in the future.

On another note, 10 AM - 8 AM was my longest run [ever I think] and without caffeine and limited sugar it was difficult. I would/will not volunteer to do it in the future if it is not necessary because it is very demanding.

I go nocturnal during the middle of the summer for about a month. Sorta a fun tradition a few friends and I started two years ago.

But during the school year, wake at 10am, sleep at 2ishpm.

Re: Whats your sleep pattern?

I have a goofy sleep pattern that always varies. During the week, I fall asleep by 12:30am/1:00am and get up by 6:15am. On weekends, I go sleep usually by 2-3am and get up by 9am the latest, earlier if I have to work. It'll get weird during the summer when I will have to go to work at 3am on Monday mornings - might just stay up all Sunday and then go to bed Monday night. Though right now, I've been having trouble sleeping and i'm not sure what the deal is.
