Re: What's the most hilarious joke or phrase spoken by a game announcer?
Curie, 2014, every time the ball bounced off the truss, the announcer would proclaim, "Rejected by the truss!!!!!" with the excitement of a basketball announcer who just watched a defender block a dunk.
Its a funny image to imagine the truss going up for a block on the court, but that might just be me. |

I spent all three of my years as a student on the drive team and one year as a mentor coach my first year mentoring after graduation. As a rookie I was human player, and for the next two years I was a driver, and the year after graduation, I was coach. I've played all the positions throughout four seasons and I can tell you rarely did I ever hear what the announcer was saying, except for when the remaining time was announced. This is a skill that can be difficult to acquire as a coach, because you have to filter out everything to communicate with all the alliance members, but also keep your ears peeled for when the announcer says X:XX time left in the match. For those who have a hard time doing that as a coach, I just recommend watching the digital countdown clock on the opposing alliance station. |

"Curry Field"
Same announcer at Champs introduced us at one point or another as, Circus Circus, Citrus Circus, Citric Circuits, and probably another one or two I can't remember at the moment. |

The best Nader-isms are the ones he can't say out loud. I've nearly gotten him in trouble when he asked me what the foul was and I replied something that was a mild double entendre. He almost repeated it, and then realized, "I can't say that!"

I'm surprised no one has posted the joke that has been a part of reveal videos for the last 3 years.

During Hopper qualifications a robot fell onto its side and Tom Nader said "Looks like team xxxx decided to switch their drivetrain to the z-axis.

"I don't wanna say it's ovah, but there's not... much... hope..."
- Ron Partridge trying to announce an almost un-announceably boring match. Way back in 2004 as a field volunteer, Dan Green would ask us for phrases to slip into the game announcing to keep it lively. Our favorite accomplishment of Dan's was the phrase "goats do roam in villages". Pretty impressive! |
Re: What's the most hilarious joke or phrase spoken by a game announcer?
At Hopper last year, we always had a good laugh at the announcer that would yell, "Good shootin'!!!" during matches. I honestly have no clue how it was relevant to Recycle Rush, but it was sure entertaining for all of us. (And I'm sure it's lack of relevance made it even more entertaining)

A stream host at Colorado decided to use the phrase "His Majesty of Points" last year.

I believe it was at a practice match at the 2012 IRI competition, Paul Copioli introduced Fondy Fire, Frog Force and Wings of Fire as, "a bunch of effin robots."

Re: What's the most hilarious joke or phrase spoken by a game announcer?
I always enjoyed Tom Nader's commentary on the results of 2014's autonomous. "There are 3 albatrosses on the field!"
That man speaks pure gold. |
