We're truly excited to be involved in FIRST season 2016. Thanks Dustin for citing us! The Jetson TX1 is indeed the perfect companion board for the ZED.
As you said, we'll offering during the competition a special price for FRC teams who want to use the ZED 3D camera for their robots. You can find more details here on our blog. Any ideas on feasibility of getting labview(vision module specifically) running on the tx1 or tk1?
We're looking at using a ZED(http://www.stereolabs.com) camera with either a tk1 or tx1 and am already familiar with labview vision so if possibly would want to explore that path. |

I am aware that LabView cannot be used to program the JTK1, but that alone does not mean it is entirely incompatible. What I/O does the JTK1 have that can be used for bi-directional communication with the RoboRIO?

Before you pick one... ask yourself what data you are sending and where, and why you are sending it. Some data that gets sent does not always need to get sent... We used NetworkTables last year but we've found it to be slow for our purposes this year so we are investigating alternatives. |

Anyone using a ZED with a TX1? I have it working on a tk1 but still run into issues with image corruptions. I had to buy a mini pci-e USB module for the mouse and keyboard otherwise it was completely unusable with the zed going over a hub. So now only have the zed is on the usb 3 port but it still has sporadic image corruption. At least it's semi-usable now but still dog slow. The depth viewer only achieves around 5-8fps and some other examples not much better than that so if anyone has some data on the tx1 that would be awesome before we spend the money on something that may not be much, if any, better

By the way, the LV network tables implementation allows you to control the update rate of the client/server, and it includes a flush call to force a send. Using the flush, and perhaps the rate, you should be able to get NT to have as little latency as a TCP implementation.
I'm not sure how much of this was incorporated into the v3 or network tables, but it was discussed. Of course if the kids wanna write their own stuff, that is fine too. Greg McKaskle |

Regarding your keyboard/mouse mini-PCIe USB setup, have you tried using the USB OTG port (normally used for flashing). With the converter you can plug USB2 peripheral(s) into it. Best regards, Dustin |

the tk1 gets 5-7fps with the depth viewer on 720p so it sounds like the tx1 is ~3x faster with that type of load(assuming by hd you mean 720p rather than any of the higher resolutions). certainly an improvement but not as much as one would hope and the other question is if it's worth spending $300 for that...... corrupt frames are still an issue though so it may be worth the upgrade just to mitigate that issue... |

We ended up buying a 12V to 19V converter:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00M3SR51Y?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailp age_o02_s01 I haven't dug into the rules closely enough to find anything that rules those out, but I suppose I'll do that while I'm studying up for robot inspecting. We might end up using our mentor's TK1 instead. It's smaller, lighter, runs on 12V, and it talks to the cameras we bought unlike the TX1. |

I'm working on a write-up that describes what we have done and I can tell you it's not as simple as a 12v to 19v converter... |

Is the TX1 significantly better for simple OpenCV hardware acceleration than a TK1? I am looking at how to get vision done for our team, and don't want to spend the extra money if we don't have to. Our original plan was to use a raspberry pi, but the processing power seemed to just be too low.

Using a supercapacitor would be in a grey area of R31 and R32 in my book. It's probably not a "battery". But it might be a "source of electrical energy". You wouldn't have a COTS exemption.
EDIT: If you are using the supercapacitor linked in the Nvidia thread, I can't believe any inspector would let that pass. |

We used the device linked and passed inspection with no issues and had 4 inspectors in our pit at one point (a whole other story). We had no issues with power on the board this weekend with the exception of our heat sink coming loose which prevented the board from powering on.
Overall it performed well, we just have some PID bugs to tune on the robot side of things. |

I got the TX1 board running off of a second VRM using option #1 from this post on the nvidia forums. They warn about the hard shutdown being possibly an issue, but the board seems to be powering on fine for now.
Haven't tried connecting to it yet after a few startup/shutdown cycles or driving around, as we ran out of time in the lab. Marshall, did you try Option #1 before moving to Option #2 for changing the capacitor values? We didn't have any capacitors on hand that were the right value, let alone size. Also, could you provide more info on the supercap you guys are using? |
