Segway, Its ok NOT great

I have to say, I have ridden the segway 4 times. Its GREAT the first time you ride it. But after that its ok, its not like a rollercoaster that is fun everytime. I agree that the Ibot WheelChair was a better invention. The Ibot gives so much more to a person who cant walk than a segway gives to a person who is able bodied.

it was not mad as a toy. it was made for people to get around faster and more efficiently.

Of course it wasn't as much fun after the first time. You know that the rest of us out here are dying to get on one and haven't had even one turn. You must be feeling incredibly guilty about having 4 turns! How could you possibly enjoy the other rides with that on your conscience.

(Just joking.)

Where did you get to ride it? Where can I go to get my hands on one?

I have seen old people walking around with walkers, and I bet some of them will be pretty jazzed when they get their hands on a Segway.

Also years ago, I used to deliver parcels for a living in Toronto. Zooming around various apartment complexes would have certainly made my job a lot better.

And then there is the downtown hassle in many cities--some where you are not allowed to drive at all. Imagine people using Segways instead of cars. Imagine having cities with air where you feel that it is okay to take a deep breath. I don't know about you, but I live in L.A. The first thing I do when I get to the mountains is take a deep breath, and then I realize that I haven't done that since the last time I was in the mountains.

The Segway wasn't designed as a personal Magic Mountain/Disneyland experience. I was at Dean's house in April and watched him drive it around his dining room table. There are many people who will just flip out to have the freedom to move that way. Personally I want one right now. I want to do my shopping with it. Take it on the subway and go to the mall at Christmas.

If you get one that you don't want, let me know.

I do feel kinda bad about riding it well now 5 times (sry guys!). The best way to get a ride is to.....

1. Work For SEGWAY
2. Work For DEKA
3. Work For FIRST PLACE (FIRST's HEADCOUTRES and PUBLIC FACULITY)
4. Work on a Project that requires you to use a segway (Such as school)
5. Work for a sponser of FIRST
6. Work for a Company that makes parts for the Segway
7. Work for a Police Department that Has a Fleet of Segways
8. Be a Mail Man, excuse me Postal Worker
9. Know Dean Kamen
10. Take a walk around the Mall Of NH, He is typicaly there riding around on his Favorite Toy!

I've heard many people say in their posts "When I was over at Dean's house I......"

I was just wondering how all these people get to go to his house. I mean, do you know him personally some how or show up and walk in like you own the place or what?

I believe there is a party after kickoff at his house....

MattK 26-07-2002 22:56

Kamen's Crib

It depends, if you dont know Dean has most of his workers and their friends and family over 1 or 2 times a month. His house is like increadable, it includes a full size light baseball dimond, a full size pool and Sooo much more. Its a very interesting place to be!

MattK 27-07-2002 17:39

Mentors who go to the Kickoff Event in New Hampshire in January, get invited to Dean's house after the event.

Since we were a rookie team, we decided to go to New Hampshire to get some training there. They had a mini version of the FIRST competition which was very helpful.

Going to Dean's house afterwards, was a treat.

The party at Dean's house for mentors is the night before the kick off. There is a day of training for mentors the day before the kick off and many of the same mentors go to the party at Dean's house that night.
I got to go this past season. We're toying with raffling the invitation of to raise money for this years team. :-) Dean's house is a trip and I have no doubt that people would pay money to see it.
