Reaching a defense multiple times in autonomous?

So the rules say you get 2 points for reaching a defense during auto. They do not specify reaching it multiple times. For example, if a robot reaches a defense, then crosses it, then goes back to the neutral zone and reaches either the same defense, a different one, or on that has already been reached by an ally, does the robot get 2 more points or is 2 the maximum?

You can only cross one defense in autonomous.

Quote:

Once a ROBOT CROSSES a DEFENSE in AUTO, any additional DEFENSES that ROBOT REACHES or CROSSES during the AUTO period will not decrease DEFENSE STRENGTH nor contribute points to the ALLIANCE.
You can also only reach one defense in autonomous because the reach is scored at the end.

Quote:

ROBOTS can also receive AUTO points for REACHING a DEFENSE. A DEFENSE is REACHED when, at the end of the AUTO period, any part of a ROBOT’s BUMPERS are within the opponent’s OUTER WORKS

It seems everyone here on CD is interpreting "additional defenses" as including "the same defense again." To me this is a bit unclear; I would think an "additional defense" would be a different one, so you could get more points for crossing the same defense twice. But maybe that is why they used the word "additional" instead of "other"? I would like a clarification on this.

I agree that once you have crossed a defense, you can't get the points for reaching it, or for reaching or crossing any other defense. And they probably mean you don't get another 10 pts. for crossing the same defense again, either, but technically it's not an "additional defense."

Kind of a weird situation, but the way the rule is written you can score 12 points by completely crossing over a defense (+10 for crossing), then drive back over the same one, stopping in the middle at the end of auton (+2 for reaching).

The +2 reach appears to be allowed because it is the same defense, not an additional one.

Well, you only get the reach points for a defense that you have not crossed.

And once you have crossed a defense, you can't get reach points for any "additional defenses".

So once you have crossed one, you can't get any reach points, no matter where you end up.

And I am thinking you probably can't get any MORE crossing points, even if you cross the SAME one again, because it is an "additional" crossing (if not an "additional" defense). But that is a little less clear.

Okay, so based on
Quote:

Once a ROBOT CROSSES a DEFENSE in AUTO, any additional DEFENSES that ROBOT REACHES or CROSSES during the AUTO period will not decrease DEFENSE STRENGTH nor contribute points to the ALLIANCE.
I think that you can get all 12 points unless the "additional defenses" part means you cannot reach the same defense that you cross.

We interpreted the rules as, you will get the points for crossing once, but will not get anymore for reaching them.

As far as I can tell, they are trying to have a lower level option for every team to be able to do something, for teams that cant scale all the defenses, they can reach these, for those that can, you get the ten points.

This can be seen everywhere in the game. The High goal and the low goal, and even the low bar challenging and scaling, allowing rookie and "moral support" bots to have a piece which they can easily traverse, and contribute to their team instead of just running around smashing into the defenses, hoping something works out.
