You would not be playing above your own ability, as your own ability includes how well you can play a defensive game. This strips all playing power from teams who decided to make defensive robots.
Overall, you really shouldn't need to rely on your opponents to get points, even if you end up doing poorly your first few matches, you can take those bad matches to improve your robot. You should fix your problems, not patch them by begging for free points. In my mind, the difference can be shown in two scenarios; Scenario 1: "Why can't we get over the rocky terrain?" "Instead of improving our robot, lets simply ask our opponent to help us, and rely on that to improve our ranking" Scenario 2: "Why can't we get over the rocky terrain?" "Lets go troubleshoot until we are able to find the problem. Now our team has a better robot" |
