Team Update 1 : SCALE - Touching the ground?

Quote:

SCALE: an act performed by a ROBOT, such that at the conclusion of the MATCH, it is in contact with a unique RUNG, and has all of its BUMPERS fully above the height of the low GOALS
Does this mean you can continue to touch the ground and be considered scaling as long as your bumpers are raised above the line and you merely touch the rung?

The main Team Update 1 thread contains a discussion about this.

Your bumpers would leave the bumper zone so it would not be legal.

I'm not talking about raising the bumpers. I'm talking more like silts that raise your bot in the last 20 secsonds. Something will be in contact with the ground but your bumpers will be above the line.

Yes, it's still a violation of R22, I asked a similair question in the other thread.

So, and I think I already know the answer, if a robot was made so that, in the last 20 seconds, the frame supporting the bumpers(not the bumpers alone) was raised the two feet to be above the goal BUT the wheels remained on the ground, this would be a violation correct?
As I read it, correct. That would be a violation.

The intent seems to be that your robot can't get into a configuration so the bumpers are out of the zone that would cause you to miss another robot's bumpers in a collision.

Even if the wheels are raised too? I'm talking about pushing the WHOLE robot up. I'm unsure how this is different than using the bar to raise yourself up except that you are touching the ground with some set of arms.

If some arms are touching the ground and the rest of your bot is not, it's still a violation because your bumpers are out of the bumper zone. The effective "bottom" of your robot is bottom of your lifting arms.

I'm confused. We're both talking about the last 20 seconds and scaling right? How are you supposed to scale and keep your bumpers in the bumper zone?

The bumper zone is relative to the bottom of the robot. Generally the wheels, but would also apply to anything else that extends past them. It is a plane that exists at this point regardless of orientation.

The last 20 sec has no height limit, but the bumper rules are still in place.
