Right Angle Planetary
Does anyone know if there is any type of right angle versa planetary gear box available for purchase (specifically for bag motors)? Thanks in advance for the help!

Re: Right Angle Planetary
I don't know of any... But a long time ago, it was common to pull the gearbox off a Dewalt drill and slap it on a CIM motor. There are some right-angle drills available, perhaps you could use one of those in a similar way?

Re: Right Angle Planetary
You could put a versa planetary into an LJ box from andymark.

Re: Right Angle Planetary
Off top of my head:
AndyMark Sells this: http://www.andymark.com/product-p/am-2622.htm They also sell this, which might replace your entire thing depending on what you're doing: http://www.andymark.com/RAW-Box-p/am-2372.htm VexPro sells Bevel Gears alone (http://www.vexrobotics.com/vexpro/mo.../217-3344.html ), if you can create a bracket to assemble them that mates to the VersaPlanetary. Not sure what your machining capabilities are, but I know I could make such a thing with some 1/4" aluminum, drillbits, taps, and a drill press, or just sheetmetal capabilities. |

And if you want really easy to install and don't mind the weight, something like this might work, designed to adapt a hand drill for right angle.

Re: Right Angle Planetary
Are you specifically asking for a gear box that attaches to the output shaft of a versaplanetary, or are you asking for a simple way to change the motion to be perpendicular to the rotation of the output shaft?
If you're asking for the former, you have been given some solutions by the posters above. If you're asking for the latter, you can simply put a bevel gear directly on the output shaft of the versaplanetary, and have the second bevel gear on the shaft you need to drive. The way you form structure around this is entirely dependent on your design and manufacturing capabilities. I would appreciate a description or sketch of what you wish to do so we can better help. Here is an example from our 2015 practice bot intake for the latter option: ![]() |

Did you end up having to use a snap ring on the vertical shaft? What keeps it from falling down? |
Re: Right Angle Planetary
What size hex shaft is this? 3/8" or 1/2"? Thanks

We use these retaining rings and these shafts are 1/2" hex. You can actually see the retaining ring in the picture if you look really closely. |
