What is the Craziest thing YOU have done with duck tape
What is the craziest/funniest thing YOU !! have done with duck tape?
i made a wallet and am planning on making a full size backpack out of the sticky stuff Edit* for other explain in post |
I voted for OTHER.....cause i have never used duct tape in a manner that is out of the ordinary
|
You don't even want to KNOW the craziest thing I did with duct tape.
|
I plead the 5th.
Wetzel ~~~~~~~~~~ Ask me in 2 years when the statue of limitations is over. |
geez, vague answers people.
I've helped duct tape a person like 5 feet off of the ground during a football rally. Between ASB (student gov), where we hang up posters everyday and robotics, I've used up so many rolls! |
I've made a couple of wallets, jewelry, and right now I'm in the process of making duck tape pants, though i'll prolly never finish them...
|
Its something we threaten the annoying kids on the team with....but we only duct taped someone once.
|
Hmm...I made a bookbag...well...so maybe I just _covered_ a bookbag...but still. I made gloves. First layer: sticky side out. Then I covered the sticky side with more duct tape. I then extended them into elbow-length gloves. Sadly, I made them too tight and had to cut off the large arms. (and the fingers...but that was because I couldn't get the first layer around my fingers so they stuck together) I still have one of them. Made my hands sweat quite a bit.
|
ever see the white duct tape, that doenst really look like duct tape, but it is? that stuff scares me.
you forgot to include tying someone down with duct tape. such as freshmen, for example. actually, the one freshman on our team wasn't even worthy of wasting duct tape on. we used masking tape. |
|
Room idea!
I've used duct tape to stick those useless aol CD's to my wall (shiney side up) when you get a lot of them together it looks like one cool messed up mirror

STUPIDITY ON THE WORKSITE
And now for another example of what NOT to do the the worksite...
I work with a construction company during the summer. Most of the other employees are immegrnts, mostly Hispanics, and bearly speak a word of english. one of my coworkers was using a saw-zall when the blade brakes. Now i was running a temporary run of PVC tp the back yard and was using DUCK-tape to put them together. He comes up to me asking for something in spanish (a new blade) i being totaly delirious to anything figures he wants the ductpe in my hand so i hand it to him . He shrugs and takes it from me. Then he takes the two peices of blade, meticulousy tapes them together and wraps it as tightly as he can. When he trys to cut the 2x4 the blade snaps off. He drops the sawzall, which in turn hits somebody working below him causing him to fall and sprain his ankle! Guess whos paycheck the emergancy room fees are taken out of...:( MORAL IS... If ur gonna be a contracter LEARN SPANISH! and avoid the use of ductape |
unless your payed under the table so to speak i am pretty sure that is illegal to take money out of your paycheck i work with my dad during the summer and he is a plumber so i hear these kinds of things so look into it
EDIT ps how does hving the blade break cause someone to drop a sawsall unless it was jerking around till the point he couldnt hold onto it in whcih case he sould have stopped pulling the trigger which would have stopped the motions and the only way anything like that happening that i could think of wasmaybe there wasnt any training with the power tools and maybe there should be??? and workers comp should pay for any accidents on the job and stuff like that unless the workers werent on the payroll in which case that person is screwed but either way it still shouldnt come out of you paycheck |
Craziest, eh?

Water Balloons!
Duck Taped water balloons... they don't pop, so.. I guess they're more like a deadly weapon, especially when put in the freezer :D
|
or you could just fill up a water balloon with air pop the balloon and then pretend that it is wicked heavy like a frozen water balloon and then throw th duck tape at a person and they would freak out until they saw it not go to far and then i would probably start cracking up

"When You can't Duct it - Chuck it" as one of my Team Members always say.

Our physics teacher always had a poster hanging in his classroom that said: "Duct tape is like the Force - it has a dark side and a light side and it holds the universe together."
|
Hehehe, my friend sent me that quote back last March after we got our 5 qualifying points at the Mid Atlantic Regional. I have had it in my sig for a while now.

Well this wasn't me personally but something I saw at school. For some reason last year everyone thought it was cool to duck tape freshman to things. So...I am walking into the lunch room one day, and I see this kid duck taped to one of the poles. It was the craziest thing. But it was really funny...considering the kid who was duck taped was laughing histerically. Oh well...

This has been mentioned before, but we duct-taped someone on our team :)
|
we did that to two people at battlecry3. one was ogre's sister. it was so funny but she flipped out once her dad put duct tape on her mouth
|
My mother used Duck tape to help secure a mirror to its frame. does that count as crazy!

-------------------------------------------------------------- Dear Duct Tape Users: Is it Duct or Duck? We don’t want you to be confused, so we will explain. The first name for Duct Tape was DUCK. During World War II the U.S. Military needed a waterproof tape to keep the moisture out of ammunition cases. So, they enlisted the Johnson and Johnson Permacel Division to manufacture the tape. Because it was waterproof, everyone referred to it as “duck” tape (like water off a duck’s back). Military personnel discovered that the tape was good for lots more than keeping out water. They used it for Jeep repair, fixing stuff on their guns, strapping equipment to their clothing... the list is endless. After the War, the housing industry was booming and someone discovered that the tape was great for joining the heating and air conditioning duct work. So, the color was changed from army green to the silvery color we are familiar with today and people started to refer to it as “duct tape*.” Therefore, either name is appropriate. Today, Duck® brand Tape is manufactured by Henkel Consumer Adhesives. After thoroughly familiarizing ourselves with the hundreds of duct tapes on the market, we have found Duck® brand Tape to be the most consistent in quality. And, we are delighted with the large array of colors that they manufacture (including camo tape and new “X-Treme Tape” which comes in hot day-glo colors). Jim and I do lots of appearances promoting Duck® brand Tape and do so without reservation. Therefore, we go by both The Duct Tape Guys, and The Duck Tape Guys. And, we use the words Duck and Duct interchangeably throughout our web site. So, whether you call it Duct Tape or Duck Tape... you are still using the “Ultimate Power Tool” in our estimation. --- Jim and Tim, the Duck/Duct Tape Guys -------------------------------------------------------------------------- -taken from http://www.octanecreative.com/ducttape/duckvsduct.html - - - - - - - - - - - For an interesting DT story see-http://www.cerrell.com/releases/a130rel.html [couldn't they have done it at Disney durring Natl's could they! would have been more fun!] ps- I reccomend the Xtreeme stuff... the green is just right for use with MOE! |
Yea, I was hoping that was a 'copy and paste special,' I would think that you have gone insane if you memorized all that. But that is a good answer to a very good question... Duck or Duct?
Lets just call it Duckt tape. |

BTW, I've never done anything uber-crazy with duct tape... made a wallet for my brother, taped people up, etc... nothing too special. However, my cousin's friends did enter the prom duct tape thing - they just put duct tape over old suit jacket/pants/dress - they even used colored duct tape and made corsages and such! The pictures are quite amusing ;) - Katie |
Duckt ( :) ) Tape is good but how about the Priority tape you get from the post office FOR FREE. That is fun to use to repair anything or package anything you have to. It may not be as strong as Duckt tape but it does have a pretty design on it :p. I'll attach a picture later once I get the digital camera from my Dad.

In response to the paycheck thing, we're all off the books so he was kinda screwed. But it was only a sprained ankle and i have a friend who works in the emergancy room, so all i had to pay for was an ace bandage and a brace kinda thing. But still, i was young"er" and stupid |
I remember this contest where groups of like 10 people had to bust open a watermelon, eat everything inside, and then duckt tape it back up. That was interesting...
|
About droping the sawsall, when a blade breaks suddenly and unexpectanly, it can cause you to do several diffrent involuntary responses.
He probally heard it ka-TWANG and freaked, droping it. Wetzel ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ /me is listening to E:\Kelly Osbourn\Kelly Osbourne - Papa Don't Preach.mp3 |

This summer i was working at an outdoors camp where people regularly used duckt tape for medical purposes. They used it instead of medical tape to keep bandaids on, instead of moleskin to prevent blisters, and instead of an ace bandage to brace someone's twisted ankle. Any time we'd go on a long hike, we'd just routinely tape our feet. Oh, we also used it to tape our pants together cause rock climbers have a bad habit of ripping their shorts right down the butt crack. |
The craziest encounter i've had with duct tape has to be last summer at camp when we hog tied my roomate with duct tape and threw him in the showers...
|
many of us team members from team 25 had fun with Duct Tape last year at Nationals. ...we Duct Taped a colleague to the ground very well..and had people from other teams help out too. It was great.
|
wow duct tape... is there anythiing it can't do???
|
7th...or was it 8th....well, that doesn't matter...
Anyway, middle school track...me and a group of friends duct taped a team member for lack of better things to do during a meet...so, he was subjected to running across the field to his next event with his hands tied behind his back and a duct taped uniform...turns out, his mother, one of the parents who were helping out, wasn't too amused, and began cutting him out with her car keys...:D Well...that was a stupid story...:p |
It comes in really handy when you need to seal wall and floor seams before painting on theater sets. We used it everywhere.
In the book I have a couple of characters that have done most of their car interior in duck tape. |
Tetra you sound like a person I want to meet if you're that nice... lol
|
Now that I think about it; Duck taping people's doors to their dorm rooms shut was a favorite among my college buddies.
|
I've never tried this, but my friend said that she'd try to make a power bar (during track season) out of duct tape because it's high fiber content...haha...:p
|
i have a giant 40 lb ducktape bowling ball
|
Wow...a 40lb duct taped bowling ball...that I have to see...
I duct taped a brick once...used it as a paperweight...until it fell off my desk and uh...crushed something... *looks around innocently and whistles to self* :p |
here is the pic
![]() |
WOW! That's AWESOME! :D :p I've never seen anything like that:)
|
lol, this is from a comp, all the ducktape on the floor, man that was so sad
|
thats awesome!
|
Once...I duct taped my shoes for track...completely duct taped...including laces...I stuck to the ground for weeks after taking all the tape off...:p
|
i hope you didnt do any running events, i did hurdels, and i did the same thing, my feet were stuck to them! i had many many cuts, it was a cinder track
|
I wish I didn't have any running events...:p
A cinder track? Whoa. But I did the Mile, Mile relay, and 800 meter run...sometimes, I ran sprint events, like the 400 meter run... But oh my goodness...we had this thing called "The Devil's Backbone" 3 or so miles...uphill...did that every other day practically, in 80 degree weather...once, our coach forgot to meet us and I didn't have water for some time... heh...sorry if this was off topic:) |
dont worry, we need to get some robotics chat rooms set up
|
A couple of chat rooms would be nice...
|
I agree :D
|
anyone know of any web based chatrooms?
|
I don't know if you saw this, but, a long long time ago (sometime last year) there was something posted about avoid posting to every other post. I think this was why posting was limited in threads such as "A Word Association Here." Just letting you know.

Lemme see.. fun things robotics members made with ducktape....
We locked one of our members into a bathroom at 11:30PM when he thought he was all alone, and then my friend made a blowgun holder out of ductape, and then we taped the kid with the blowgun holder to the ceiling.....lots of fun stuph. |
alright.. this is going to sound a little wierd (even for this thread), but here it goes. Me (and 2 other friends) decided to do this to my ROTC bud back in the day. We taped his right arm to his left ankle, his left arm to the outermost part of his right shoulder (via putting his elbow behind his head), then taped his eyebrows (using double-sided duct tape [yes they DO make it) to 3 nine volt batteries connected in series. it was funny seeing him hop around on one leg like that for a while.

although I never go on, I've heard people talk about it.. Yeah I remember that bowling ball- ramp riot, right? I've also duct-taped a camera to a tripod (don't ask) and regularly duct-tape my folders when they start to fall apart.. |
Well since our team had the pirate costume and we were pirate themed, the girls from team 692 made me a pirate hook and eyepatch out of duct tape. That is what I wore everytime the robot went out.

Twister and Weatherproofing
When I was 10 years old, I weatherproofed the roof of my fort in my backyard with duct tape.
At parties, we now play "Extreme Twister" where one is duct taped to the wrist with the person to one side of them, and at the ankle with the person on the other side. (Leave it to a bunch of FIRSTers to not only improve on Twister, but to do it with duct tape!) |
lets just say that it involved the genitalia of a sophmore...
|
I hate to be the picky one here.. but isn't technically it called "duct" tape.. not "duck" tape? LoL...
And as far as what's been done with it by me.. lets just say it really isn't appropraite for this forum.. :D |
Lets see....Craziest thing to do with duct tape...
Ever seen those large foam novelty sombreros? Well during regionals we made one...outta duct tape. If you look at the webcast of the Lone Star regional quarter finals at the 43 min. mark, you can see the announcer wearing it. http://robotics.nasa.gov/events/webcasts/lonestar.htm __________________ I have used duct tape to tape a broken toe to an non broken one on a backpacking trip. It wirked really well and kept it realitively painless. __________________ On a long road trip, in the middle of the west texas desert, we had a radiator hose break. We duct taped the crack closed. When we started the truck, the heat melted the tape and created the perfect seal. We drove the last 550 miles on it. -Bill B. |
