Disney Cruse Line Guests First To Test Segway

From a good source, guests on the Disney Cruse line will be the first general public to ride the Segways. They'll be able to test them on the ships, and on Disney's private island (don't you want your own, island that is) Castaway Cay (sp?).

Also for Michel K., M:S has gone into cycle testing! Hip-hip-hor-ray!

Sounds very plausible, but define "good source."

MattK 23-08-2002 13:53

yeah, I saw that on WMUR NEWS 9! (If thats not a plug I dont know what is.....)

How about a Disney CM in the know. Of course you can't always trust them, but he is true most of the time. Plus, MattK confermed it.

hmm, i think you and i, and the few other students on FIRST teams who rode them in florida would count as the first of the general public to have tried them, don't you think?

MattK 24-08-2002 01:06

Nothing about FIRST team members are "General"

If you got in without a VIP pass, you were the general public, but I got in using a VIP pass, so I wasn't general public.

Oh well.

Now I have to book a 2 day cruse.

MattK 24-08-2002 21:14

WMUR re-ran the report (as they do most of the time, like on the 6 & 11pm) and it looks like only the crew gets to ride. All the footage was of the crew, yet they said they would be able to "try". I dunno if that is to step-on or actualy rent and ride around.

mtaman02 24-08-2002 21:25

we are not considered the general public. we are however special in FIRST's own little way. General Public is mainly the business world. Cruse Lines, Post Offices, All the different City depeartments Fire Police etc.. From what i hear. police officers in NYC and postal workers will be the first to inherit the use of Segway. nothing was finalized so im leaving it as a lil rumor that i picked up on in June

MattK 25-08-2002 00:12

I cant find any other news agency reaporting this. I did a search on google.com/news and still nuttin.

Makes me wounder

Rob Colatutto 25-08-2002 00:37

oh, hehe. my whole team got in without the VIP passes because we were talking with Bart and he just kinda brought us over to them, probably because our advisor was amazed that he was related to someone who started mad magazine

team222badbrad 25-08-2002 14:58

Your all wrong!!!!!!!!!!!!

The employees at Disneys Innovations are the first people in the general public to drive them!

Just think, the get to ride one everyday!

I think everyone in robotics should be able to get on the Segways, I mean, come on people, we wanna turn too. :(

I have a remark from somebody saying that the Segways are available to RENT at intervals of 1/2 hour for $15 at Castaway Cay.
